If you run short of RAM when gaming/working, buy it

There is a legitimate performance benefit to 4x8 over 2x8 outside of "moar".

Not sure why people are discouraging you, 32GB is highly recommended these days as games are getting bigger.

There are potential pitfalls with adding more sticks if they don't match the same timings as the ones you already have though, but it usually works okay so long as they are a close match.

Router:  Intel N100 (pfSense) WiFi6: Zyxel NWA210AX (1.7Gbit peak at 160Mhz)
WiFi5: Ubiquiti NanoHD OpenWRT (~500Mbit at 80Mhz) Switches: Netgear MS510TXUP, MS510TXPP, GS110EMX
ISPs: Zen Full Fibre 900 (~930Mbit down, 115Mbit up) + Three 5G (~800Mbit down, 115Mbit up)
