And this is just what you did with high end PCs of the time. Color matching. RGB makes the same thing easier but if you were going for aesthetics, you bought components that matched different color schemes. 

 

In my opinion, it was a much better trend. I never understood people saying "just set the RGB to whatever color": shining a colored light on some (black/white/graphite) object is nowhere near the same as that object being a certain color (i.e., having certain pigments react to regular daylight or regular artificial lights). You may, unlie me, like the current RGB solution better, but you can never argue that paint is equivalent to leds.
