Budget (including currency): $2,100 usd

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Everything but twitch games & competitive shooters

Other details: The smaller the case, the better. Existing displays: 1440p, 1080p. I'll need a wired kb and mouse. No RGB or RGB that can be turned off. Decent quality around $90. Mouse: Small to normal sized with more than two buttons. Any build parts can be swapped out.

Is an mATX build ok for this cpu and gpu? M.2 slots are next to GPU. (see attached image)

The mobo needs BIOS update for this CPU. Can I do this w/o having a CPU to put in it?

Do I need anything for this build besides some small screwdrivers and an OS install USB?

Are clearances good for GPU, Cooler, RAM?

  GPU: 343.916mm in length

  Card Dimension (cm) 34.4 x 12.8 x 5.7
  Card Dimension (inch) 13.54 x 5.04 x 2.24

almost all modern matx cases have support for large 3 fan cards, this one included, i would like to recomend you away from this case tho, i know friends with this case and have heard reviews about bad build quality and cheap materials, if its in your budget maybe grab a nzxt h5 flow or a o11 mini but this case has support for up to 350mm gpus, and this card is 344, although i dont know about adding fans to the front of the case

Yes, nothing wrong with MATX in principle.

Overheating with M.2 slots under the GPU are hard to predict, since it depends on the cooler and the heat output of the GPU and the M.2 drive.

From a quick googlage of the case specs, it looks like this will be very tight and might prevent you installing a front fan.

It has a flash button on the rear which suggests: YES, but I can't confirm it actually has flashback. You may find it doesn't need a BIOS update anyway when it arrives.

No, but I'd get a lamp if it is dark and have another PC or a phone nearby so you can check the manual, or "how to" videos online if you get stuck.

The M2 slots have shields, that'll be good

The 7800X3D released more than 1 year ago, probably most new boards already have a compatible BIOS
Board also has BIOS Flashback, no CPU needed

yes, but not in this case. It's quite a budget one

yes, the motherboard has bios flashback

not too small but ye, that's basically it. You can get an anti static strap if you'll build it on a carpet, but if it's hard floor then ignore this

you'll need a license as well

can you go for different motherboard? there's cheaper alternatives that are good quality

Probably not,

yeah having help if you get stuck is good, you could even ask on these forums too

I'd go for different case maybe, though not terrible,

and since you're getting high end GPU, a slightly better PSU wouldn't hurt either

could also get shorter GPU that's also cheaper, there's really almost no difference in them really, @filpo's list has a cheaper and shorter GPU

Thank you for the replies. I changed the case which happens to fit a full ATX mobo so I changed the mobo as well. I Updated the RAM & SSD based on recommendations. The only reason I did not change the GPU to PowerColor is because the ref cards are said to have coil whine. Finally, I added the recommended kb and mouse. The motherboard is picked out of a hat... full of other B560 mobos. Should I keep it? I don't care about wifi but the non wifi version was even more expensive.

Anyone want to convince me I need that 7800x3d? Or to swap it out for a 7700X?

hmmm, for low resolution (1080 1440) you might not notice a difference, but in 4k and doing 3d modeling or anything else like video editing, the upgrade is worth it, although you could go 7900x maybe, if it fits in your budget
