upgrade to 5900x or 5800x3d from 3600

Go to solution Solved by Dedayog,

Check again this summer, but the 5900X isn't a gaming CPU.  The 5800X3D is, and isn't that hot either.

Atm i'm thinking of upgrading to the 5900x in the summer after ryzen 9000 has dropped along with pricing. (Just FYI currently locally to me they're priced the same.) One of the reasons is this vid that shows 1440p gaming with lil difference in 1% lows.

The vid shows lower temps on the 5900x what's nice in a ITX build like mine and i'll get more cores. I'll probably upgrade my gpu in a few years.

I'm sharing this to double check with you because the x3d chip has had a lot of hype around it. Feel free to share what you think.

I've got a 1440p 165hz monitor and this is my current build:

https://nl.pcpartpicker.com/b/WPHzK8

It's a AM4 system i build in 2023. Probably debatable if i should have gone for AM5. Basically i needed a pc cheap and wasn't to sure about AM5.

With the RX 6600 you need no upgrade. Eventually the 5700X.

I went from a 3600 to a 5900X, both with a 5700XT, then I upgraded to a 6950XT and the 5900X wasn't enough for it, thus I went with the 5800X3D.

Got  a RX6600 GPU for 1440p ??? And it's good ??

GPU is so weak for that res that I'm not even sure you notice any difference in gaming upgrading the 3600 to anything...or even can downgrade  it maybe because you're so hard GPU limited  😛

Now for non gaming work a 5900X will be much faster

A 5700X would be a noticable difference from your current cpu.

Eh the RX 6600 is oke for now. Thing is i mostly play turnbased or singleplayer games. But i want a 16gb vram card like the 7800xt but i find it to expensive atm so i'm gonna wait a while. Even with the low preformance of the rx 6600 it comes close to using the full 8gb. So i don't want a 12gb but a 16gb card.

Even a 3600 currently meets my basic needs but i want to sell it under warranty since they have been know to fail.

After your opinions i rewatched some benchmarks and reviews. I'll upgrade to the 5800x3d when it goes down in price and use it for years to come.

With the 6950XT, yes, a huge one. Not in the average and high framerates, but in the drops (low framerates) meaning the smoothness. Talking about mostly PUBG here, on 1440p.

  • 3 weeks later...

I looked at how much the price dropped of the 5800X3D when the 7800X3D dropped but there was almost no pricedrop.

So i'm gonna order a 5700X3D. Wish i lived near a Microcenter then i get a 5600X3D since i'd rather have higher clocks than more cores at a higher price.
