That SSD is really Expensive. Also, peripherals are deeply personal options. I would set aside $400 for them, and choose what you thing would be best for your friend.

~$230 for peripherals(monitor is already included). I can't choose headphones and such for other ppl because they are very personal
If they are not enough,you can swap out the 290 and get a GTX770/R9 280X instead.
Make sure to buy red/white sleeved cable extensions for 24pin connector and 2x pci-e connectors. They will change the whole build.
