Atheros AR956x troubleshooting

Hey there,

 

I am currently trying to set up a PC for a friend and in my infinite wisdom forgot to check the motherboard for WiFi compatibility, which of course resulted in it not having any. I scavanged a Qualcomm Atheros ar956x from an old laptop I have lying around but I can't get it running. Here is some info on the sytem:

 

OS: Win11 Pro Pro 23H2

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5600X 6-core 3.7GHz

RAM: 32GB

Motherboard: ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming 4

 

I've tried installing drivers through device manager and windows updates, but with no luck. Online I found some drivers on ath-driver.eu but installing those through PS didn't fix this upon rebooting. I repeatedly get an Error code43 (0000002B).

Any help would be appreciated!

Code 43 is general hardware error. It sounds like the card might just be broken. Did you confirm it works in a laptop?

Sadly the laptop I took it out of died like 3 years ago and thus hasn't been turned on since. When it died the card worked, but that's as much as I can tell

The AR956x is a very old WiFi module. It only has a single 2.4GHz radio for 802.11b/g/n. I'd be surprised if Windows 11 even supports it today.

 

Invest in a modern M.2/2230 WiFi/BT module to go with that motherboard.
