Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Fortnite, Ets2, Forza 5/4, Minecraft. Most likely a little bit of photo/video editing

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):  Mainly playing at 1080p at 180hz, I don't really care about aesthetics or looks I just want something that is great value for money

  • Aftermarket cooler to get the most out of the 12400f.
  • Motherboard with bluetooth and wifi.
  • 32GB of RAM so you’ll never have to upgrade.
  • Case that includes all of the fans
  • Fast GPU.  If you want a 7800xt you can get one, just get a the 759w cersion of that PSU.  You could just get the CX750 anyway, it’s £10 more.
  • 2tb gen 4 nvme

I edit the shit out of my posts.  Refresh before you respond.

The 12400f with the 7800xt is gonna be faster in almost every game than the 12600kf with the 7700xt.  The 12400f can also run with a cheaper motherboard and any cooler is more than enough.

I edit the shit out of my posts.  Refresh before you respond.

Not really.  The first batch had seious production issues that have since been resolved, but the bad press has brought the price way down on it so it’s fine.  For the SSD all the gen 4 DRAMless are gonna be the same.  There isn’t much of a decision to make.  Just get one and it’ll work.

thanks for all your help, I ended up going with the nzxt h5 flow for my case and the 7800xt for GPU also the nzxt c750 for my PSU. everything else is what I got recommended

yo, I have another question.

all the necessary parts for my build are arriving within the next few days except the GPU, I was wondering can I use the computer with a placeholder GPU? the only GPU I can use as a placeholder would be a gt730. Would it be ok for like a month ?

Sure, just make sure to reinstall the graphics drivers with the new GPU.  You may have to reinstall of there are instabilities.  But that’s ok.

7700 + 6800xt + 32gb 6400c32 (eff 6000c32)

went for a balanced am5 build with a used 6800xt since you wont really be able to get a much better gpu used even with extra budget since the 6900xt isnt that much faster and the 3090 is probably somewhere around new 4070s pricing and you wont get any new gpus that actually perform better till you start looking at the 7900 gre and 4070s which are 513£ and 568£ respectively

used 6800xt should be ~300£ and outperform a 7700xt thats 100£ more new which means the 7600(xt) and the 4060(ti) which is what you can buy new for the price of the used 6800xt will stand no chance against it

after you set xmp manually set ram freq to 6000 so you dont have to tune anything else, guaranteed 10000+ capable hynix a die so you wont have to replace these unless 32gb is not enough anymore

i highly reccomend buying a used 850w rm(x) or equivalent psu for 40-60£ as they are more efficient and have higher wattage whilst being cheaper than a new 750w bronze unit

you can also just ditch the case and look for a used one thats dirt cheap or outright free if someones throwing one away, combined with the used psu and some slight budget stretching you can definitely fit a 7900 non x if you really wanted to
