What will she do with it. For internet, word and stuff is overkill, a 350$ rig would be enough.

I would get a better quality PSU. But with lower wattage(if its even a word).

All looks good except that i find the case is a bit to pre-teen, How about these two...

1) http://www.amazon.com/NZXT-Technologies-SOURCE-CA-SO220-01-Steel/dp/B0066130AO/ref=sr_1_23?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1400848035&sr=1-23&keywords=atx+case

2) http://www.amazon.com/ULTRA-Etorque-Mid-Tower-Gaming-Case/dp/B00FZ5JE3Y/ref=sr_1_198?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1400848328&sr=1-198&keywords=atx+case

The PSU could be one with less wattage like...

1) http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-80PLUS-Certified-ATX12V-100-W1-0430-KR/dp/B00H33SDR4/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1400848530&sr=1-4&keywords=400+watt+power+supply

and i am not sure about the RAM's model number as you did not put it up but check it here.....http://www.gskill.com/en/configurator?manu=29&chip=1311&model=1416 to make sure it will work.

A water-cooled mid-tier gaming PC.

Pretty good. I'd change the case as it looks like something my 14 year old brother would want and not my mother. Bit gaudy. Get a Core 1000 USB3 (and a smaller cooler) like TX3.

You need a case that is suited to her environment, she needs a sense of class, a PC that is reliable and worthy.

I would go for a i3 4130, the i5 is simply overkill.

Honestly, a pre-built would be a better option for a simple desktop PC.  Can probably find one for around $300-$400 with Windows already installed.

I was thinking similar, but personally I like to build myself in OPs shoes so if stuff goes wrong I/he/she don't have to deal with OEM support/RMA process :P

I selected the AMD because it is an APU and it has a little more graphical umph than CPU's.

I chose the Zalman cooler because of it's performance, value and low noise level.

The motherboard is just a lower tier model from a trusted manufacturer.

Ditto for the RAM.

Unless your mother is ripping CD's or DVD's 256GB of storage should be sufficient. If more storage is necessary you can get a quality 1TB internal for US$50-60 or an external for about the same.

The case is an affordable and well built case with understated lines that appeal to the older set (I'm 44 y/o).

The PSU has much more power than is necessary but it is about the least expensive unit I could find with a reputation that I trust.

Good luck.
