Depends how much you are willing to spend. GPU will give you a good performance boost but of course you will get more with newer and faster hardware. 

 

What I could say is you can always buy the graphics card and if you aren't happy with it buy the rest

 

Also to note on this for playing 1440p 165hz monitor you will want more than a 3060ti if you are playing demanding titles. If it's CS2 and Fortnite then you're good 

 

Edit: Because of Fortnite engine upgrade frame rates may be less

Which game? 1440p leans towards GPU demand, but CPU cannot be fully forgotten.

 

9700K doesn't sound slow though,

 

like in lot of games that aren't strictly CPU intensive, the 9700K can match 5 5600x Ryzen: (and that's 1080p, the gap gets smaller in 1440p)
