Best, inexspensive NAS for home

I was wondering if someone could suggest a pre populated, inexpensive NAS for my home use. It would be used mainly to backup my files, but would also be used for some light streaming to my tv. Thanks for any help you can give.

How many TB do you want?

Basically any nas can work as a media share, so without storage requirements its hard to reccomend a specific share.

Depending on what kind of storage or RAID option youre looking for you could also look at the homebuilt option. You can find an older desktop for not much, and just need to get the hard drives for it. With a free software like TruNAS it works pretty great.

Technology is like a good friend that does its best to piss you off at every turn. yet we love them anyway.

Cheapest option is indeed a simple PC with drives, doesn't have to be powerful.

If you want a complete prebuilt one then I suggest Synology or QNAP. The Synology DS124 is from last year and cheap, not sure about reviews yet though. I personally have a NAS similar to the QNAP TS-233 which works well in my opinion.
