Setup usage:1440p gaming and 1080p video editing

Have an pc part picker list. is it any good?

PCPartPicker Part List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/zJytbL

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X 4.7 GHz 6-Core Processor  ($213.95 @ Amazon)

The CPU is easily cooled by a mid-range air tower like https://pcpartpicker.com/product/hYxRsY/thermalright-peerless-assassin-120-se-6617-cfm-cpu-cooler-pa120-se-d3.

New CPU coolers come with a tube or preaplied patch of thermal compound. There is usually no need for more.

The memory kit has XMP profiles and is intended for Intel CPU. Consider a memory kit with EXPO profiles.

The PSU is overkill. The system only needs a 550W model.

Consider a 2TB NVMe drive.

I believe the sweetspot for 7000-series CPUs is 6000MT/sec, then get the lowest latency possible.

This is a perfect example of nominally higher spec memory that gives much worse real-world performance, especially for gaming.

"Memory: Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6200 CL36 Memory  ($172.99 @ Amazon) "

The transfer rate is nominally 3% higher.... but you've accepted 20% higher latency to achieve this.... 6000MT/sec CL30 is at least 15% faster, certainly for gaming.

Besides the lower performance, you pay an obscene premium for that nominally higher transfer rate... here are some performing, better value options:

GSkill FlareX5 6000MT/sec CL30 is <$110

or

There are some similar GSkill TridentZ versions (same DDR5 6000+CL30 spec plus RGB) for around $125.

My workstation/gamer: Ryzen9 5900X@5Ghz, AC Freezer2 280mm AIO, ASUS TUF X570PRO, RTX3080Ti FE, 32Gb TridentZ DDR4-3600C14, M.2 1Tb WDSN850, M.2 1Tb WDSN550, 2x 8Tb WD80EFAX, Corsair HX850, LianLi O11 Air Mini + 3x NF-A14's, Gigabyte M27Q (27"/1440P/170Hz), Asus PA248 (24"/1200P/60Hz), Dell WFP2408 (24"/1200P/60Hz), G815 kbd, G502 mouse, Sony WH-H910N, ModMic Wireless.

Do motherboards have overclocking for latency? i believe they do
But I'll update the ram later

thx

Most motherboards will have three main memory settings:

1) JEDEC/Default(s): slower stability speed that it will drop back to if you fail to POST, some will have multiple options here (see the "red box" JEDEC 5/6/7 settings on my DDR4 in the screenshot).

2) XMP/EXPO/DOCP (the name varies): you can tell the motherboard to read the rated "overclock" speed off the RAM and load that (see the green box in the screengrab). 90% of people are probably happy with this for gaming and it usually pushes the RAM to a good, safe balance of speed and stability than any motherboard/CPU should handle perfectly. This is the "enable XMP" that people always refer to when you install new RAM.

3) Custom... not for all... this is useful if you're doing memory tuning: there are some really decent gains to be had, but it takes a bit of maths and a lot of patience and time to find the exact sweet spot for the fastest your RAM can run and still get you some meaningful advantage AND be stable. There are 27 different timings that you can change on most boards and any one of them could impact performance + stability.

I can recommend some good guides for memory tuning: I used to do this to all my systems, but seldom bother now that the EXPO profiles are fairly good anyway. It was really good if you could find some high spec RAM on a budget DIMM which could actually run WAY above the EXPO speed it is rated for (or more commonly: the same speed, but WAY lower latency and tighter timings).

Honesty, probably just best to load XMP and enjoy your PC, but if you really like squeezing every ounce of performance out of your hardware...

This guide is still pretty valid and gives you a good idea of where you could start:

If you were interested, you could always download Yurii's DRAM calc tool:
https://www.techpowerup.com/download/ryzen-dram-calculator/

and Thaiphoon Burner:
https://www.thaiphoonburner.com/

This will allow you see how fast the hardware actually is... and how close your theoretical maximums are to the EXPO speed.
