Which would be better

Budget (including currency): like around 450

Country: netherlands

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: fortnite, roblox, fnaf security breach, a few vr games

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): okay so my little brother wants a new pc and because he is young and doesn't have much money he is buying a pc second-hand, now he has come to me for advise. Now, I come to  this forum for more advise.

He has found 2 pcs he would be able to buy that look a lot like each other. Now, one has an Intel core i7 6700 and an Asus rtx 2070 mini oc edition and the other one has a ryzen 5 3600 with a nvidia rtx 2060.

Which would be better?

Get the Ryzen system assuming price is about the same because it has an upgrade path even though the GPU is weaker. The 6700 in the Intel system is basically a dead end.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

Do you intend to upgrade this pc down the line or will it just be replaced at some point?

The i7 6700 system it outright better from the start with the 2070.

But the r5 3600 system will have a better upgrade path.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the Core i7-6700 due to its age will be limited to Windows 10. There are workarounds to get Windows 11 to install and run on un-supported hardware but Microsoft is slowly closing up that loophole by including checks for instruction sets older processors don't have. The Ryzen 5 3600 on the other hand is Windows 11 supported out of the box. So you'll have only about a year's worth of official software support for that Intel system before you have to start paying Microsoft a premium to keep providing security updates (which would be out of your price range if you're looking at multi-year old systems).

Of course, you can go Linux after support runs out... but that has its own challenges which is for another topic thread.

not to mention Ryzen being faster can benefit in some of the games, for example BR games like Fortnite can get pretty low on FPS or potentially stutter with slower CPUs

even the 3600 can be almost double the speed of i7 6700 despite being i7

True in terms of raw CPU performance. But in terms of gaming performance as a package, that 2070 might give the Intel system a slight edge over the Ryzen. Which is why the choice isn't as clear-cut.

Yes if you upgrade the GPU on the Ryzen system it'll smoke the older Intel platform, but that's not the exact scenario here.

it's a catch 22 situation, but I'd still go with Ryzen,

regardless if you go faster GPU, the slower CPU will slightly choke the fps, whereas faster CPU and slower GPU doesn't choke GPU and enables it to crunch more fps and be more stable in 1% lows too,

the reason I'd still go Ryzen here is because of the platform, you'll be on AM4 platform, with DDR4 RAM with a CPU that can utilize up to 3200Mhz RAM speeds with no isues

I have some new information, apparently the 2060 is a gigabyte windforce oc 12gb. Would this make a big difference?
