Hi guys,

Im starting a course next year which is going to feature a lot of typing (5000+ words every few days) and im looking to sink some money into a really nice mechanical keyboard as my razer blackwidow is starting to fade on me so i will use it as a backup and for my media pc. However this new keyboard would see a little bit of gaming as well, as far as i can tell brown switches sound like the best way forward for me. I have been looking at the logitech 710+ that has been recognised as a very nice keyboard. I was wondering if any of you guys have any input into which keyboards you think are nicer etc. Thanks

I have a 710+ and LOVE IT. The o-rings under the keys make it a great experience in my opinion. A friend of mine has a DAS keyboard with browns and no o-rings, I have to say I like mine better ;)

I got my mom a blue switch keyboard because I figured she would like it for typing, and she really does. For typing lots of essays and stuff, I would say blues are a pretty great experience. I have not used that keyboard nearly as extensively as mine, but whenever I use it I like the experience. Honestly, Browns or Blues will work, although for gaming I personally would stay away from blues. So, for your needs, I vote brown.

Just a little more info, my old roommate had a corsair board with reds, wasn't a fan at all.

I was going to recommend the G710+. It is a truly amazing keyboard with great quality and software. @TheSLSAMG and @TheDoubleYGamer would highly agree.

I would agree with this statement for the most part, but in my case it has weak keycaps.

I have used blues for a long time, with the razer blackwidow. Another of the complains i had is that the keys on blues are realllly loud which doesnt bother me in the day but at night it can keep other people up and i dont think thats very fair

MX blues are great for typing, but can also be used for gaming if you can deal with the noise. I have a CMstorm quickfire TK and I love it.

As i just said before you commented i have used blues for about 2 years, i do like the feel of them however the sound is a bit annoying.

710+ all the way man. The o rings make it a lot less clicky, but still give great feedback.

My Ducky Shine 3 has MX Browns and I love the keyboard and the switches. I do a lot of typing (have to write thousands of words for College units) and a fair amount of gaming and I have to say that the switches are a perfect balance in my opinion. I have used my friends Blackwidow 2013 and I have to say that I prefer MX Browns over MX Blues even when it comes to typing alone. Obviously that is a personal preference. As for the G710+ I heard many good reviews about it and if you really want to have a somewhat silent keyboard compared to the MX Blues on the Blackwidow then that sure is the way to go since the O-rings on the G710+ will really help to keep it much quieter. Either way I can definitely recommend the Ducky as an alternative choice to the G710+.

The G710+ is great for what it is. My only gripe with it is the glossy part that can get fingerprints quite easily.

Well I also wish that the cord was off center since I put right up against my display stand but everyone has a different situation.

If you ever need help with a build, read the following before posting: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/

Ahhhhh i see, i have heard that ducky make some very nice keyboards. (im also at collage. What course are you doing??? Just noticed your in the UK so the course may not be too different!) Unfortunately most my mates are content with shitty membrane keyboards so theres only so much i can do when it comes to trying other key types... I will look into the ducky and possibly start another thread a way down the road asking for peoples opinions on the two :)

That wouldnt really be a problem for me, however the fingerprint magnet might bother me as i am a big fan of things looking nice and new etc. Thanks for this. I;ll definitely consider it :)

Mechanical keyswitches are different for every person, I would recommend going to a PC Shop or maybe go to some friends who have mechanical keyboards. Try them and find what you personally enjoy typing on. I use MX Browns for my needs, however my young brother owns MX Blues and I really enjoy typing on them too, I just don't like him using them while we sleep!

The only thing is, as i have mentioned i dont have friends with mechanical keyboards, they all use membrane keyboards. Also PC shops in the UK i get the feeling arent quite as good as the ones in the US or Canada, PC world being the only real one near me, and them selling one mechanical keyboard, this being the razer blackwidow, and im fairly sure that it has been there about 2 years haha. Also as you say the noise generated by blues is a problem as i do not live on my own, meaning doing any serious essay work or anything all has to be saved until daytime and working until 3am (as is often necessary) is just not really an option anymore.

I'm doing IT (Extended Diploma Level 3) :D Sadly I have to use cheap membranes at college -.- If you are interested in the Shine 3 then feel free to look at my unboxing and review (there is a link to it in my signature) I cover a fair bit about the keyboard there.

I can't recall 100% on this, but I believe Coolermaster offers a key sample of each different cherry switch for $5 or $10 I think, and if you purchase a coolermaster keyboard they give you $10 off your purchase so you would have gotten the samples for free.

Here it is, not sure if they ship to the UK. Trying to give you some options :/

Thank you man, i really really appreciate that. I'll certainly look into it. I mean, if shipping on that is anything like ive seen shipping from america be in the past i dont think ill go for it, soley because it'll be twice the cost of the demo board anyway... But i;ll certainly look into that. Thanks again
