Water cooled RTX 4090, Thermal paste issue???

JapanDave

Hey,

I have broken down the GPU and I have just one question, in the pic do I need to remove all that thermal paste around the heat sink?

It is impossible to clean.

If you really want to clean it.

Use 90% and above isopropyl alcohol and a soft toothbrush

Yep, that did the trick. Thanks.

So I am assuming that b/c it was already there, that the paste in non conductive, so I really did not need to clean it?

Yeah, it's non electrically conductive.

Whether or not you needed to clean it, honestly idk, I don't dab into custom watercooling.

But if it's me, and I want to custom watercool it, I'd want it as clean as humanly possible.

Because regretting later means I will have to tear down a custom watercooling, and it's a PITA

Correct. Since it's non conductive and automated in its application from the factory, they tend to put more than necessary and it just spills out to the sides like that.
