Upgrade AM4 CPU

I am looking to update my AM4 CPU to a 5th gen. 

Under my budget I have the following CPU's and my main purpose is to run this for the next 2-3 years as my motherboard is brand new (Old One died).

My memory is 4x 8gb 3600 and old CPU is Ryzen 3500 which is getting old.

Motherboard is B550 Aorus Elite V2 Rev1.2

 

The CPU's I have in mind are:

Ryzen 5600, 5600x, 5700x.

 

Before anyone says wait for 5700 X3D it will not be launched in my budget so no point in waiting for it, so which one from the above list would be the best bang for the buck.

R7 5800X on ebay, or (incase it fits your budget and gpu) r9 5950X/5950X3D for only arround 50 - 100€ more than the 5800X

Used 5700x/5800x for 120-150$

That 3500 is still worth around 50$ if you resell it so you can add that to the budget

If you're just gaming, then all of those CPUs will perform pretty similarly, at least if you turn on PBO for the R5 5600, as that basically turns it into a 5600X, and the 5600X and 5700X usually perform about the same. There's little point in getting the 5600X unless the price is very close with the 5600, as the two are basically the same chip, just with the 5600X clocking a bit higher out of the box - again, just turn on PBO and the 5600 performs within a couple of percent of it.

 

There are some games where the 5700X pulls ahead thanks to the two extra cores, so if you can fit it in your budget, it should last longer than the 5600. But any of them will be fine, especially considering that you only have an RX 6600.

I see little point in spending more for anything above a 5600 if you can't get a 5700x3D. Frankly even that isn't enough of an upgrade to be worth it, IMO. 

 

The only thing I'd consider for that system if you don't plan to move to a current gen platform is a 5700x3D which you could just wait a bit longer to afford.

The R5 3500 can be a lot slower than an R5 5600. The R5 3500 isn't just a slightly slower R5 3600, it's a 6c/6t part (no SMT) that has had its L3 cache cut in half - so just 16MB.

 

It's an OEM only part, so there wasn't much talk about it, but it's not a great gaming CPU in 2024. Depending on the games being played, an upgrade could be warranted.

Update: Got the 5700X, 5600X was just 5$ less than 5700X so was not worth it.
