It's pretty decent. See if you can try to find a 10700/11700(k) for around $150, since that would make a pretty decent upgrade. If you can't, then I'd just do a platform upgrade.

So I recently got a 6650xt however I only have a 10100f, which isnt the best for gaming or 3D modelling which I enjoy quite a lot. Would anyone say its worth it to upgrade on the platform such as the 11700/11900, or would it be worth it to get a new mobo and CPU such as the 12600K or the 7600x. I have a Dark Rock Pro 4 so cooling isn't a serious concern so long as I don't get a 13900K.

I actually posted about asking for a 5/6 years lasting, but sort of leaning away from that as I can upgrade later on, so I'm aming for this to last a couple years, about the same amount of time the 6650xt will be needing replaced

Depends on the budget.
You can get a i7 12700k for 280$ USD or an i5 13600k for around the same, maybe lower by 10 bucks.

What motherboard do you have? If you have one with an OK VRM, getting a in socket upgrade if you find one for a good deal is a good plan. Meanwhile, if you have something with a barely functional VRM like a B560M-HDV, a CPU upgrade will give minimal performance uplift as you'll be power throttled, so getting a motherboard upgrade at the same time and going for a more modern CPU is a good idea.

Budget is around £250/300, I'm not counting new RAM in the build requirements, I dont have much and plan to upgrade when I decide on ths

I have a B560 Asrock Pro4, not sure on how good the specs of the board are, I mainly got it for its M.2 Gen 4 DRive

I would get either an 13600k or 12700k depending on your needs. Both are about 270-280 USD (250-258 Euros)

I found a 10700f 2nd hand for about £120 and a 11700 for £160, this is from a shop in the UK called Cex and they have 2 year warranty so that's a bonus

I know. Doesn't change the fact that you shouldn't spend more than ~$150 on an LGA 1200 i7, and a higher end CPU isn't really necessary for their system.

That's quite good advice actually, saves on the cost for the Mobo as well, which I should have specified was included in the budget. Also well done to you for using they/them and not assuming im a guy

OK, that 10700F looks like a pretty good for the price and it should just be a drop in upgrade.

10600k for $105 or so would be a good option as well.  I had a 10600k in the kids before the 5600X3D too-good-to-pass-up deal, and it handled things pretty well.

Compared to the 10700F for 120 pounds though that would be a hard sell, at least for me personally. If the options were only the 10600k for $105 or the 11700 for 160, then it's a bit more up for debate.

Yeah, just scrolled up and saw he could get the 10700 for 120.  Definitely grab that.  Should last another generation, or when the 8xxx AM5's come out see if that drives a platform change.
