Video Camera for theater

Hi 

Not sure if this in the right place but I work in a small theater they put on play bands and the occasion comedian alot of people are asking to record their performance have been using a Sony handy can (not ideal I know) most shows it manages ok but some shows the lights constantly changes and really struggling people mainly look like white blobs .

 

I connect camera to pc and record it through OBS and have a sound mix from sound board,so sound isn't really an issue.

 

The camera  is currently 20m (65ft) from the stage.

 

What kind of camera would be good that would break the bank.

What's your budget? Are you looking for a remotely controllable PTZ camera? Do you want to plan for a future multi-cam setup?

 

A DSLR or professional ENG style camera with a "real" image sensor would give you decent options for a good price. You'd just have to use a DeckLink card to record the SDI coming off the camera.

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

For 500$ your at like a used Canon XA11 from someone like lensrentals which has 2 XLR in and a mini HDMI out
