Hii so I need help deciding how to upgrade my pc/setup. My birthday is coming up so me and my family are gonna pitch in together for few parts. I want a new gpu but I know that most likely I need a new psu to pair it with.

Budget (including currency): 400$ (no more than 300$ for gpu)

Country: United States

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming like city skylines, Minecraft, Guild Wars 2, Fortnite. Sometimes coding but my current machine can run my coding and work requirements.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Ryzen 5 5500

16 GB of DDR4 3200MHz

B450 Aorus Wifi Pro

GTX 1070 MSi

Evga 500 W1 80+ White 500w

WD SN570 Blue nvme

I might need a monitor because right now i use just basic Dell office monitor but i know there is options for 75-100$ that are good enough.\

Thank you! :3

Why would you spend a ton on the tower, and so little on the thing you use to interact with it? Monitor should be higher on the priority list.

Personally I'd grab a used 2080Ti off of eBay, they can be had pretty cheap with a little waiting.

R5 5500 is a strange CPU, since its basically an R5 5600G with the iGPU disabled. This gives it a decent gap to the R5 5600(x) and even farther to the 5600x3D or 5800x3D. This is especially important in MMO/multiplayer games like GW2 and Fortnite, while City Skylines and Minecraft are notoriously CPU limited.

If you're close enough to a Microcenter to drive there, picking up an R5 5600x3D would be solid. The rest of the budget can go towards a better GPU, though you'll be unable to upgrade past a GTX 1070 until you get to the +$200 range (GTX 1070 is still a very capable GPU in 2024). You could also pick up a 2x16GB 3600MHz kit of RAM for not much in 2024.

TLDR: if you have a nearby-ish Microcenter, go there and buy this.

AMD Ryzen 5 5600X3D Vermeer AM4 3.3GHz 6-Core Boxed Processor - Heatsink Not Included - Micro Center

Fill the rest with a GPU, RAM if you can benefit from 32GB in your coding. Otherwise, 16GB is still enough for modern gaming with limited background applications.

If you don't have a Microcenter nearby, a 5800x3D and GTX 1070 is still a solid combo for the games you actually play.

Thank you!

So as I understand my gpu is still perfectly fine and I don't really need to upgrade it. But CPU, ram and monitor do need an upgrade.

Unfortunately I don't have microcenter but I definitely can order from Newegg, Best buy or amazon.

I think i would buy the 5600X3D and maybe find new ram because my board supports 4 slots and i definitely max out my ram usage.

My only worry is cooling because right now i am using stock amd cooler and new cpu would be having twice more power usage.

just get a 5800X3D and a better psu (maybe a thermalright PA120 for the cpu), the mobo is fine (just do a bios update) and the ram is fine too, if you have to upgrade it you can just add another 16

Is new power supply a must, because with such expensive cpu and new cooler i also would want to get a new monitor to actually take advantage of all those frames

the W1 is a tier F - replace immeadiately on the tier list so yes, I'd say it's a must
