Which program reports the real cpu usage?

In games like cyberpunk , last of us , intense npc actions really made fps lower and gpu usage drops on my sys with ryzen 5600 and 6800 at 1080p

However msi afterburner only show cpu 60-80% used while task manager shows 99% on all cores and from that single game

CPU usage metric in MSI Afterburner matches with Task Manager precisely in my own experience. Your polling rate is probably too slow.

I usually just use the Nvidia or AMD Overlay depending on the card. Might not be something for everyone though, especially not the nvidia one since it's a bit bulky....

Also: Please enable XMP/D.O.H.C before asking why your ram is too slow.

Could you elaborate more on polling rate ?

Polling rate being the frequency the application samples the value, if you're getting spikes to 100% that are causing dips in framerate (with CPU based NPC calculations, that will happen when the GPU is waiting on the CPU, which is usually the case, just not severe enough to cause dramatic dips unless there's an unbalance). If your spikes to 100% are shorter than the polling rate, its possible to never see those spikes.

Somewhat unbalanced, especially if you're not overclocking the R5 5600. I could see it hitting 100% utilization at a stock configuration and causing your issue, assuming its not a hard thermal limitation.

I would run Cinenbench R23 (specifically R23 since its got a lot more data to it than newer versions) to see where your R5 5600 lands. If its dramatically below average, then you might have a thermal limitation which is cheaper to solve. If you're still using the stock cooler, I'd suggest buying a $20-$40 Thermalright air cooler to replace it.

Just ran a cb r23 and here are results

At 4.65GHz score 11985, temp peaked at 69C

So on par with overclocked results, you're likely just running into the CPU's limit TBH.

Cyberpunk will crush all 12 threads on your 5600?

I didn't know it could go that hard...  huh...

Well, son of a bitch, so it does now.  Good to know.  That's a hell of a lot of threads for a game.

So, the reason then is as mentioned:  It's probably a refresh cycle on the app.  Especially when the CPU is busy crunching game data, Afterburner is probably a lower priority.

You should see basically any Battlefield title or hell, Star Citizen even at 4K.

🤣
