In Need New Motherboard AM5

I'm trying to decide between 2 motherboards for an open box Asrock X670E Steel Legend $169 or an ASUS TUF X670E Plus at $280. I like the 10 USB as I have 8 devices on the steel legend. I just want a good board I'll be redoing my custom loop soon so might as well grab a new "better" board meanwhile. X670E preferred.

 

On the new boards I will be using a kyrosheet for my CPU with my XC7 if one of these boards will effect that.

 

Any major upsides or features to choose one over the other?

 

Appreciate any & all help on this.

Any particular reason a B650 board wouldn't work?

Wouldn't buy an open box board to save my life.  

 

Of your two choices, get the ASUS.  Or a new Steel Legend.

No just prefer X670. Always had a Z/X series boards. Also for the price of the steel legend from micro center is kind of a "steal".

Really? Is there something I should look for on them. It's from micro center with a 90 day warranty. I just worry about Asus customer service it took me a near over a month to get an RMA on my last X570 that suddenly just died on me.

As much as I love MC... their open boxes have been an issue for me.  The problem is no one checks them.  If you return a motherboard, and say you just don't want it, they open box it.  If you tried it and couldn't get it to work, and say you didn't want it, they open box it.  If it's missing a few capacitors and you dropped it 67 times, but tell them you just don't want it, they open box it.

 

Just be aware you're buying something someone returned and no one checked it.

Ah, I see. True, good looking out. Depending on board quality I can get a new one. If they don't' check and/or test then for sure.

I wouldn't buy X670 again without a specific use case for it, the B650 options make so much more sense for like 90% of people. You're not giving up any performance or overclocking potential and just gaining an extra chipset that in my experience, can just end up with headaches and increased boot times. They try to make you believe you need X670 to have the best performance but its simply not true, I'm glad I see through that. 

 

We want to try to help others see that too.

But to be 100% frank about it, the B650 boards are incredibly stout for AM5.  The AORUS Elite AX and Pro AX can handle any CPU a few times over.  

 

Just throwing that out there if you want to save $100 or already have locked in the better boards.

I understand but as far aesthetics go I can't find any B650 steel legend except amazon.

I just kinda wanna asrock now and stay away from asus. I bought originally a b650 strix I didn't build till I got all my parts (water cooling fittings, tubing, and blocks) in so over 30 day returns at MC and turns out DOA. So had to go through 2 months of getting an RMA then sent me a refurbished board. No thanks I paid for new and when with Asus TUF B650 since my X570 was so good until it broke itself after cleaning and dust busting my PC one day. So after RMA on this one I got a new in manufacturers box and only took about a week or so. Not bad so idk what happened to asus nowadays. Never used a gigabyte board before. First build was intel with EVGA. The X570 as I mentioned, now B650 asus TUF with broken ram slot lock since I picked it up. Onyl reason at the time was to match my GPU even though on water. TUF,
