OK going to do my best to explain this and hopefully someone can help me out of the hole lol.

So I was planning to give my Zenbook 15 (10th Gen intel/1650) to my nephew for college. So as one does, I went to the "reset pc" setting and went through to do a clean install. After multiple attempts I kept getting a message like "failed to reset pc. No changes were made."

So I did the basic troubleshooting steps; checked for out of date drivers, windows updates, even did the check for corruption in the command prompt thing. No issues found but still the same problem.

So my thought is, skrew it, I'll just create a Bootable usb windows install drive and do it the manual way. Well when I did this no drive showed at all in the select drive to install windows on screen. Not just no drives that would let me install, I'm talking just a blank box. I hit refresh drive list and still nothing. Tried recreating the media usb and same thing. No drives showing.

So next I'm like OK maybe I need to format the drive first. So I take the laptop apart. Pull out the NVME drive and throw it in my windows PC. Go to disc management and deleted all the partitions and formatted the drive. Lastly creating a new simple volume (I repeated this step without creating the simple volume as well). Put it back in the laptop. Same thing. No drives showing.

So I'm like OK I'll just install windows on the drive using my PC and then move it over to the laptop. Did the whole install until I got to the part that it wanted me to set up windows (choose keyboard, login, etc). Turned off the pc, took out the drive and put it back in the laptop. Laptop then boots straight to bios and the drive does not show as Bootable. It shows up but can't select it as a boot drive.

So now I'm out of ideas and really hoping this laptop isn't bricked. (I do have a new drive from Amazon on the way to try but I'm not hopeful cause really there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the drive).

Any thoughts or ideas are super welcome. Heeeeeeelp!

Interesting issue. I would have done the same for troubleshooting so well done there. The only thing I can really think of is updating the bios.

I say that because the motherboard cant seem to recognize drives anymore- but if the motherboard wont even show the USB drive to update the bios from then ???? idk.

I figure having a cmos/bios flash button on a laptop motherboard is a long shot but you could check for one of those.

Good luck man

Thanks dude. Bios update is next i think.

The strange thing is, it recognizes the drive in the BIOS, just wont allow it to boot from it.
