Overriding options.txt file in Minecraft.

I want to set a way higher render distance (only for experimental purposes) but Minecraft Java always limits the options. Is there a way to remove the resetting of options.txt? There is this mod - https://modrinth.com/mod/limitless-options but it doesn't seem to do anything. I don't think it even loads, I am using that with fabric 1.20.4 (it was made for Quilt 1.19).

How do I actually change the render distance? Also, does this work on client only?

Go into your settings in-game and slide the render distance option all the way up.

 

Almost any render distance will only ever work on the client side. The server has its own render distance, and events outside of that render distance effectively don't exist, even if mods like Farsight cache the chunks on the client and allow you to see those chunks.

My render distance setting still doesn't go higher than 35 actually.
