Hey, hope ya’ll doing great and had a wonderful Christmas. I’m running into an issue. I just finished building another system but it’s not booting. The motherboard was previously being used with a R5 3600 but is now paired with a R5 1600. Do I have to flash the bios back? Could that be the issue?

  1. Going to need a little more info than that

There aren't any motherboards specifically with a BIOS that works fine with a 3600 but not a 1600. Motherboards that drop CPU support are pretty much for the A-series APUs.

Is this a B550, A520, or X570 motherboard? If so, those chipsets are not compatible with first gen Ryzen, and only the X570 is compatible with second gen.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

It’s a B450 motherboard. It’s running a 1050Ti too.

Compatibility should be fine. Is this a brand new CPU? Also, did you try different ram configurations?

If this is 3600MHz ram for example, the first Gen CPU might be struggling with the jedec spec of the kit.

I'm fairly certain my old b350 *did* drop support for older cpus when i updated for the 5800x3D ...not sure (but there definitely was something lol)

ps: last part you're definitely correct, which is why people should post SPECS when asking for help.
