Do I have to get a new card or will it eventually fix itself?

I'm not sure. I think it's an AMD software problem. But it's very hard to tell from this thread.

Try this:

  1. Download latest AMD Drivers (offline installer)
  2. Run it. This will extract the AMD files into a folder...By default in C:\AMD
  3. Once opened Cancel the installation (don't continue) just leave it open...
  4. Go to C:\AMD\YourDriverVersion\Bin64
(Folder may vary depending on extraction location and AMD drivers version. you'll need to accept permissions to access the folder )
  5. Run AMDCleanupUtility.exe
  6. Reboot
  7. If C:\AMD\YourDriverVersion\ is empty non-existentant, open the AMD Driver setup program again (and just leave it open)
  8. Run Device Manager as Administrator
  9. Click the Add Driver icon button (it has a tiny green arrow pointing up)
  10. Pick the location to find the drivers that were extracted previously C:\AMD\YourDriverVersion (include subfolders checkbox should be checked)
  11. Once it installs the graphics driver successfully, Restart the computer
  12. Now run AMD Setup installation: C:\AMD\YourDriverVersion\Setup.exe
  13. Once installation completed, Reboot.

See if it's sorted this time.

Do you want me to uninstall the current drivers before trying this?

You can. The cleanup utility should do it. But it can't hurt.

Spoiler

They should be under:

whql-amd-software-adrenalin-edition-23.12.1-win10-win11-dec5-rdna.exe\Packages\Drivers\Display\WT6A_INF\ in the setup package.

You can download 7-Zip and just extract the from the installer download if that's easier.

Just realized I wasnt supposed to hit Cancel. If I leave the AMD installer open while clicking install driver on device manager it pops up, if I click cancel on the AMD installer then they go away.

Edit: Drivers successfully installed

Only The Finals has crashed, but that could be due to me changing 3 or 4 settings at once. It gave me an out of memory error.

People are getting out of memory errors on The Finals with RTX 4090's, so if that's the only error you're getting now, the underlying software issues might be fixed.

Also, you may want to open Disk Cleanup and clear the DirectX Shader Cache. If games start crashing after that, than your CPU likely isn't stable (is it overclocked)?

It isnt. I dont even go near overclocking since I have no idea how it works.

Im not entirely sure if this is the cause, but I think it may be the software application itself. When I installed the drivers using device manager, it never installed the software and games ran fine. But after I installed the rest of driver including the software, games started crashing again. I'll wipe everything and try the device manager method again to see if it is the case.

That actually makes sense. I'm guessing the AMD application is applying game settings which are causing problems with the brand new games like The Finals

Still getting smaller crashes here and there. Memory issues

VRAM or RAM? If it's still having video memory issues, maybe the card is defective.

You could open a support ticket with AMD, and explain to support the things you've already done. (You could even link this thread.)

Don't be surprised if they want you to re-install Windows though 😬

Some said video and others just said memory. They arent as common anymore but they still happen.

What happens if you run CoreCycler (you can use alpha2) just download it, extract it and run RunCoreCycler.bat? Does it report any errors? It will take about an hour to run. (You can still use your computer while it's running.)

I've just contacted AMD support and linked this thread. I'll run CoreCycler in the meantime and reply back once its done.

Is this meant to happen or do I need to install the newer powershell?

  1. No. That shouldn't happen. Extract the entire CoreCycler folder to a place like your Downloads folder.
  2. Then, run it from there.
