this a myth

lampshaded yourself, yes its just a myth.

AM5 Asus isnt exactly my favorite with how they handle voltage, AM5 right now is very flaky about that and want particular voltage to avoid heat excess. Asus BIOS keeps breaking the voltage limit that AMD sets even on newer BIOS.

And my second question would be do i need a new Watercooler than for the upgrade to am5 or is there also an Retention Kit for this usage?

AM4 bracket will work, and there's no offset kits for Corsair AIO right now so you dont need to call them in for new mounts. Learn more about offset kits from this article by Noctua, but basically its a good performance bonus points for AM5 system to have them, but youre not severely handicapped without them.

Hi guys,

i need some help at the moment i think i need to upgrade my system partially. The reason for thinking this is that my processor (Intel i9-10900KF) and mainboard (MSI MAG Z490 Tomahawk) could be a bootleneck for my gpu and that i dont get the needed Framerates in newer games for a smooth experience. Or is there another way to have a smooth experience? If i need to upgrade i would also be open for suggestions for Intel and AMD (if possible) parts. My current Monitor setup is 3 Monitors, 2 AOC 27 Zoll 1920x1080 120 Hz and 1 ROG 43 Zoll 3840x2160 120 Hz. At the Monitors i dont want to change anything in the near Future.

Budget (including currency): maximum 1000€

Country: Germany

Games: Avatar, AC Mirage

Parts that i have:

PSU EVGA 1600W P+

Case be quiet! SILENT BASE 802 Window White

GPU ASUS TUF 3090TI

5x LL120 RGB fans

Parts that maybe needed to be changed:

CPU Intel i9-10900KF

Motherboard MAG Z490 Tomahawk

RAM Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO DDR4 2x 16 GB 3600 MHz

Watercooler Corsair H100i RGB PLATINUM SE 240mm

Thanks in advance for any helpfull suggestion or upgrade ideas.

You havent tried it? You should, both titles lean heavier on the GPU especially at 4K, so it might even be a complete non issue.

I have tried it, in Avatar i have Microlaggs and i´m not sure where they are coming from. Today i run 3 Benchmarks 1 from Avatar, 1 from AC Mirage and 1 from Dying Light 2.

Thanks for clarifying it here, dangerous amount of people like to claim bottlenecks without properly testing it when they have the chance so here we are.

In here we got 2 routes. We either can stick to DDR4, or run with DDR5 finest for gaming. DDR4 route really i would only recommend if you are already familiar and are running a RAM overclock, if your DRAM dies are a known pretty good overclocker (and i know a few batches of 3600C16 Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro comes with Hynix dies which could go a bit further than its rated speed), then we could pull the dice out and save a few bucks, because we could reach parity with DDR5 gaming performance that way. Yes, the gains are that marginal. Request an LGA1700 retention kit with Corsair customer service.

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: Intel Core i7-12700K 3.6 GHz 12-Core Processor  (€276.31 @ Amazon Deutschland)
Motherboard: MSI MAG Z690 TOMAHAWK WIFI DDR4 ATX LGA1700 Motherboard  (€278.95 @ Amazon Deutschland)
Total: €555.26
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

For DDR5, itll be a complete platform switch so i would recommend throwing your Windows Install out and format it. We going AMD CPU.

Memory: G.Skill Flare X5 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory  (€124.39 @ Mindfactory)

Thanks for the quick response and merry christmas first of all.

I had a look at your suggested parts and now i have 2 questions.

Is there some benefit to have the mainboard and gpu from the same manufacturer or is this a myth that you have better performance than? If this is true than i found this mainboard(https://www.amazon.de/ASUS-B650E-Mainboard-Speicher-Q-Release/dp/B0BHHVHQXZ/ref=pb_allspark_dp_sims_pao_desktop_session_based_d_sccl_2_6/262-7012113-5740152?pd_rd_w=2MeFI&content-id=amzn1.sym.2809dc88-c022-4334-974f-99807e45a0e0&pf_rd_p=2809dc88-c022-4334-974f-99807e45a0e0&pf_rd_r=P0YSC7CAKHMPNTE5N0ZW&pd_rd_wg=cUK07&pd_rd_r=e8849af1-02d3-4732-ad66-82d77dd040d6&pd_rd_i=B0BHHVHQXZ&psc=1) would that be a viable option for this build?

And my second question would be do i need a new Watercooler than for the upgrade to am5 or is there also an Retention Kit for this usage?
