What do you think of this for half that price?

It was manufactured in August of 2015. That's around the time I got mine(December of 2016) and it's still alive and kicking without a single issue. Holds hundreds of games and movies.

I'd rather pay twice the price and have a drive I can trust. My time and data are worth something.  * Personal opinion, not a fan of Seagate.

So you don't trust in what this drive has done for me over the past 7 years?

Not all Seagate drives fail. I've had better luck with WD drives. (As long as it's not an external drive)

SAS Drive, not SATA.  Can't be used in normal PCs without heavy adapting.

More important than brand regarding failures is, for me, redundancy.

I have a huge problem with this.

Just because a particular product has worked for you for a while doesn't mean the same thing will happen with another user. It seems like people view all products as either being perfect or very good 100% of the time, or they have a bad experience with the product and thus believe that 0% of the products work as they're supposed to.

The reality here is...no matter how high the success rate is, it will pretty much never reach 100% - for various reasons. So someone WILL have a bad experience with a product.

It's really great that you've had great success with that drive, but that's a small sample size, and doesn't mean anything within the scope of finding a reliable hard drive.  I could recommend a product to someone that I've had great success with...they buy it because of that, and then they have a failure...That's the reality of what could happen.

You got that right, not a single one that I've purchased has failed. As for luck with WD drives, this isn't a lottery.

And there's also the reality of what could also happen. It could also... NOT fail.

7 years, still going strong. And get this, there's one major reason I have not even replaced the HDD I use as my OS drive with an SSD. And that one major reason is how flawless it has performed for me over these 7 years.

Well, regarding data integrity, I find a redundant backup to be of greater import than brand.

That's great.

But still doesn't change the fact that it could be a one-off.

IDK, maybe the description in the title?

Call me crazy, but they might be showing two different drives in this listing based on the photos.

The description says it's a SAS drive, the first image shows it being a SAS drive, but if you look at the second photo, it shows SATA power and data connectors.

EDIT: Nope, it's SAS.

The description lists it as a SATA drive, my mistake.

Welp, here is the alternative for $76.

Nor does it change the fact that it could work flawlessly for many years. Which it did for me with every single HDD I've ever owned. Not a single one has failed on me. It's difficult for me to NOT recommend an HDD because of this.

Did you buy this drive using the originally linked listing? The drive - looking it up using the part number - is a SAS drive.

So my question here is...the drive you've been using...is it SAS or SATA?

The $76 HDD I posted is definitely a SATA HDD. It's now priced at $82.

I find it interesting that everywhere I look, this is a SAS drive, but you're recommending it, and have only used SATA drives.

Right, the drive you're actually using is a different model, than what you were originally recommending.

The drives I use, are nowhere in this thread.

If you'll scroll up, I provided an alternative to the original HDD I recommended, because someone identified it as an SAS drive.

My very first post, I stated this...

"What do you think of this for half that price? It was manufactured in August of 2015. That's around the time I got mine(December of 2016) and it's still alive and kicking without a single issue. Holds hundreds of games and movies."

When I stated, That's around the time I got mine(December of 2016) and it's still alive and kicking without a single issue...

What I meant by this statement is that around the time I got mine(a completely different HDD), it's still alive and kicking without a single issue. I can see how this caused confusion because I didn't mention that mine(my HDD) is a completely different model. It's a Seagate yes, just not this model. But it's very similar and released around the same time as this one.

All HDD's I've ever owned are SATA HDD's, and I can recommend similar SATA drives with flying colors.
