similar systems with performance discrepancy in gta online

Mac Dony

So i have a ryzen 5600 and 7800xt and a friend of mine has a ryzen 5700x and 4070 he has like 20 30 porcent more performance than me in gta online. I saw that the 5700x and the 5600 are equivelants in gaming meaning that the diference is probably the graphics card. Do you have experience with gta online and can you tell me if gta engine runs better on nvidia or something. Im really lost i cant find information anywhere and i can return my 7800xt and buy a 4070 for 74 euros extra. I would love your advice

Are you Ray tracing anything? If not the 7800xt is a better performing card when it comes to just raw power, he could be using DLSS while you arent implementing FSR or similar.

Also, 5700X has 8 cores, and 5600 has 6 cores and is clocked at a lower speed, id wager its the CPU resulting in the frame difference

Though with these specs, what framerate are you getting in GTA and what resolution?

And if you're playing in 1440p/4K and hes in 1080p that'll massively affect performance also

System specs:

CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D [-30 PBO all core]

GPU: Sapphire AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT NITRO+ [1050mV, 2.8GHz core, 2.6Ghz mem]

Motherboard: MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI

RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO RGB 32GB 6000MHz CL32 DDR5

Storage: 2TB SN850X, 1TB SN850 w/ heatsink, 500GB P5 Plus (OS Storage)

Case: 5000D AIRFLOW

Cooler: Thermalright Frost Commander 140

PSU: Corsair RM850e

So im getting like 75 / 85 fps and most graphics settings dont change the performance.

I dont think that the diference is dlss or what not because my performance is the same at 800x800 or 2560x1440 even 4k just barelly makes a diference.

When im getting 75 fps he gets 90 and the margin stays like that.

maybe is the cpu but how can the ryzen 7 5700 has 30% more fps than the ryzen 5 5600.

i have another friend with a 5600 and rx 6800 and is the same story. The guy with the 4070 has way more performance.

I'm willing to bet you have a 75 hz monitor and Vsync enabled.

That's the only way you get 75fps with that setup at 800x600.

This is mind boggling.

I can tell you it ain't the GPU.

The fact you are bumping up the resolution and still limited with fps is very confusing.

My 7900XT on max settings even at 4k will smash that game , it's only 30% faster than a 7800XT and it uses the same architecture.

So it's somewhere else in your system.

Check your window power profile, change it to High Perf/Balanced. Restore it to default it necessary.
Check if your CPU are boosting properly, turn on CPU clock speed in MSI OSD.

Crank up the details, turn on 4x/8x MSAA so your GPU get more utilization and won't drop to lower power state.

I think I found the answer; it is probably a combined factor of multiple reasons. Changing the resolution on my friend's system (4070 guy) showed similar results. Basically, the FPS stayed the same, whether at 1440p or 800x600, indicating a CPU limit. The probable reasons for the difference between the 4070 system and mine are:

  1. GTA Online optimization is trash.
  2. His PCIe connector is 4.0, while mine is 3.0 (I found out today that this was a thing).
  3. The 5700x is slightly better than the 5600.
  4. GTA 5 is better optimized on Nvidia vs AMD, especially at night.
  5. His system is brand new.
  6. And probably some other shit that I dont even know exists

How much RAM does your friends system have?

You can OC your CPU to get some more performance out of it also

Change your system to PCIe 4.0x16, however i dont think this will affect performance in any way

System specs:

No idea where you pulled this information, but 190 FPS average at 1440P on a 7900 XT don't equate to worse on AMD.

And still don't excuse the issue you have with GTA V, there is a big issue elsewhere.

There is no way you do 190 fps avg on gta online with a 5600 i bet you using the 5800x3d

I dont get more fps because my CPU is bottlenecking. That is why no matter the resolution i still have the same fps (only  start to see at diference 4k).

This exact same event happens on my friends PC (even tho his base line is better) he gets the same frame rate at 1440p as 800x600

I  misjudged the problem initially and wrote a bad tittle. Looks like the problem is not the gpu. Either what i meant was the system performance not just the gpu, because me and my friend have a similar system and we have a considerable performance difference.

RAM that is not in standby is RAM not being used.

The issue is GTA-V could use more standby but he had no free ram unlike you. It looks like he wouldn't be missing much anyway.

Try fill up in use to 90% with only 10% standby and tell me you don't run into serious problems.
Standby is "shit in use that if not available program will have to load again when needed" and if frames are waiting on any of that, it will cause the worst stutters of any other type of bottleneck. Unusually I would have problems at 75%+ "in use"

This flat out really

The 5700x boosts higher on single core compared to a 5600

Also you friend could have faster ram which has a good impact on ryzen cpu performance

Because flat out your gpu is chilling doing nothing basically

3900x rtx 3090 user here gta v goes to about 75 fps offline 100+ depending on settings

Gta v is 8 threads at most. Only really uses 5 cores fully the rest is just minor stuff.

So the more cores dont do a lot if anything in thise case most just clock speed and potential faster ram
