Hello,

I'm experiencing a problem with my PC. Recently, I've noticed that the CPU reaches 100% usage even with relatively light actions, such as launching a game. This wasn't happening before. When the CPU hits 100%, a red light also turns on on the motherboard.

To provide some context, I used to be able to render videos without any issues using DaVinci Resolve and the h.264 codec. Now, when I try to do the same, the CPU immediately spikes to 100% and I'm forced to stop the process.

I'm wondering if the issue could be due to a bottleneck, although I never had this type of problem before. My PC's configuration is as follows, which I consider quite powerful, so I'm surprised by this issue:

  • ASUS ROG Strix NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090
  • Intel Core i9 13900k
  • CORSAIR DOMINATOR PLATINUM RGB DDR5 RAM 64GB
  • Corsair iCUE H170i ELITE LCD XT
  • Corsair RM1000x

Could you help me understand what is causing this excessive CPU usage?

Thank you.

If you're rendering on the CPU, it should hit 100%, unless I'm not understanding the problem?

HWiNFO open to the Sensors screen when you do this might enlighten us on if something else is amiss.

What do you mean by "forced to stop the process"?

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

Make sure that it is a debug light labelled CPU that is lighting up. If this is the case, there is a problem with your CPU. You may need to reseat it and refresh the thermal paste while you are at it.

I don't want to ruin the CPU or other components that's why i said i am forced to stop the process, it doesn't seem right for that red light to appear, right?

As others have said, the CPU hitting 100% during a CPU workload is what you want

I wish I had a dollar for every thread I have seen on these forums from people complaining about their hardware not being fully utilized.

To comment on the motherboard light, we need to know what light it is and what it indicates.

but is it normal that the little red light appears on the motherboard debug for the CPU? hwinfo photos:

The red light is probably because your CPU is overheating.

You're overheating at only 183W and throttling. Either that coolers pump isn't running, its making poor contact with the CPU or its exceptionally hot in the room with the PC.

you are right, the problem is not that the CPU reaches 100% usage but how it heats up, I tried with benchmarks and it instantly reaches 100C - the heatsink pump works, I also saw with corsair icue software, could it be the thermal paste?

Consider installing a Thermalright Contact Frame and redo the thermal paste while you are at it.
