separate PSU for GPU.

Katertain

I didn't know where to put this as it doesn't really fit one category so I'll put it here.

I got a new PC that my good friend built for me and it's a workstation PC with 2 Intel Zeons and 64 GB of ram. My problem is it has no 8pin connectors left for a GPU and currently has a nividia Quadro K2200.

I want to upgrade to a spare 1660S that I have but the PC has a specialized PSU for certain connectors.

I want to add a separate PSU just for my GPU and I want to do it properly. What all would I need?

What workstation is it?

pics?

Good chance for older ones you can just buy a psu adapter

Second psu for a gpu rarely ends well

Aha a z640.

So it has a secret compartment where it hides 2 6 pins usually.

If you take off the back panel (it needs A LOT of force usually) there will be 2 hidden 6 pins. HOWEVER!!!!!!!!!! think in yours they have already been discovered.

At the bottom front there is a plastic piece with some cables in it (second pic plastic cage at the front of the pc). Remove the cables from the plastic. Those are supposed to be "6" pin pcie cables.

However these have a small trick. They actually do 150w instead of 75w. You can buy and official adapter for them.

Like these. Buy PROPER ONES. Do not get generic cheap ones those will quite literally melt.

Btw whats the usecase? These things kinda suck for gaming. Keep in mind NO game (ok like maybe 3 can) can use 2 cpu's their game engines simply don't understand it.

Thank you so much! Btw the use case is I use this computer for heavy workloads that also need decent graphics. I do a lot of 3D modeling, 3D art and 3D animation (Blender and UE5) as well other than that I do some gaming, video editing and streaming.

Then DO NOT get a 1660s. Get a rtx card. A rtx 2060 when gpu rendering is FASTER than current 128core cpu's. It is ridiculous. Cpu rendering is mostly dead.

What cpus are in here?
