Need Help- New Plex server on the cheap PROBLEM

BillyIV

I’m building a dedicated Plex server rig on the cheap with some somewhat elderly parts but everything is still operationally strong. But I’m stuck. I bought 3X 10tb hard drives with the intention of installing them raid5 or setting up the server through unRaid. They are Exos X10 ST10000NM0196 all connected through hot swappable Sata trays in my rig. All my hardware is running fine but when I load the drives they come up as disk0. I try to initialize them but get an I/o error. Same message for all 3 drives. I’m stuck. Need help. I’m no expert but I just know enough to get myself into trouble. Here’s a list of my components:

ATI Z77 Extreme4 ASrock Main Board

Inter Core i7 3.4ghz quad core 64bit processor

32gb ddr3 Ram

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 8gb graphics card

Wifi6 card w/bluetooth

1tb SSD for operating system

Does your SATA hot swap bay have any kind of controller of its own? Can you try connecting the drives directly to the motherboard?

Did you pick those drives up used? Does CrystalDiskInfo see them, and if so what does it have to say about the drives' SMART data?

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

Do that first, if it doesn't help you might need to get a separate HBA, hardware that old can have trouble with drives bigger than 3-4TB. Had a 2014 mobo with a couple of ports that wouldn't work with 6TB drives.

Thanks for the response. The hot swap bays don’t have a controller they appear to be direct sata connections. I’ll download CrystalDiskInfo this evening and give that a shot.
