My new Nas / plex server

Dante_484

Let me start with I was building a living room PC at first but changed my mind after buying the CPU and motherboard my old Nas was almost full I had 2 6TB drives (an old Dell I5 3470 that could only hold 2 drives).

I saw no point in just replacing the drives with two bigger ones because I was still stuck with a 2 drive max limit so I changed my plans and decided to build a NAS that will last me a good long time

Parts

CPU - Ryzen 5700G (Got used for £120)

CPU cooler - Noctua NH-D9L £39.99

Ram - Crucial Pro 32gb 2x16gb 3200 £53.40

Motherboard - Gigabyte B550I Aorus Pro AX £170

GPU - Rtx 3060 12gb got for £205 (this is a replacement for the a2000 that die few days after I got it)

Case - Jonsbo n3 £155

SSD - WD red Sn700 500gb 44.99

Fans -  X2 Noctua NF-A9 £17.95 each x2 Noctua NF-A8 16.95 each

Cables - x2 4 pcs SATA cables £15.44

Problems I found

I ordered the wrong PSU SFX-L does not fit I could have just returned it but I want to continue building it after looking at I decided to remove the type c port from the front which unfortunately I had to cut the PCB that was holding (see pic below) it's not the end of the world the motherboard didn't even have the connector for the type so I was happy just to lose it

IMG_20231031_111521(1).thumb.jpg.4d781cb39caf41cb4c6862a024e50f82.jpgIMG_20231031_112506(2).thumb.jpg.589b1edc640ea138be61e80c6b739a2d.jpgIMG_20231031_112628(1).thumb.jpg.b06011828383eca56a4cdc5a625a3a45.jpg

Conclusion

In the end, I'm happy with how it came out the plan now is when I get paid next to pick up some drives install unraid and start moving my things over

Going to use it for Plex, Home Assistant, and maybe try hosts in my own game server on here like Minecraft

What's the A2000 for?

Also, FYI the bluetooth on that motherboard is quite bad. You can find forum posts with people complaining about it. IIRC messing around with some BIOS and Windows power settings got it working well enough for a wireless keyboard/mouse pad device, but not well enough for game controllers.

I've heard that too, but if you use the WiFi antenna included in the box all the issues go away. Because both the Bluetooth and WiFi share the same antennae.

Looks kewl!

I wish I had known about this case when I built mine. Great ventilation for the drives.

Mine is in a 2U rack case that was equally as expensive, and I only have space for four drives.

Qoute my reply if you want me to answer back.

I assure you that I tried the troubleshooting step of "connecting the antenna", and so did all the other people resorting to changing esoteric power settings.
