Im looking to upgrade my CPU as I currently have a i5 10400f with a 2060 oc edition with a 600 watt power supply. I have seen loads lf people mention in the past to go with ryzen but then seen you need to upgrade or update the bios of your motherboard somehow ? . I currently have a b550m motherboard so if you guys have suggestions could you please pop in a motherboard that will go with it , thanks . ( also that £180 is purely for the CPU )

Which one? There are dozens of different B550M boards out there, and they're all pretty different from each other.

Also, how do you have a 10400F and also a B550 board? Those two things aren't compatible with each other, did you buy the B550 board separately before you decided on a CPU, get it from a friend, is it a typo for a B560 board that is compatible with the 10400F, or something else?

Isn't B550 an AMD motherboard? So you want an AM4 CPU upgrade...? Or were you asking us what CPU upgrade you can get for 10t gen Intel without a new motherboard...?

I'd recommend waiting then and seeing if rumours for 5500X3D are true and it's released if you're planning on playing games.

You will have to give the exact name of the following specs to avoid bottleneck-

1) Name of motherboard

2) GPU name and vram capacity

3) Resolution of your monitor

1. I just searched it up and I think it’s this https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/WmrRsY/msi-mag-b560m-mortar-wifi-micro-atx-lga1200-motherboard-mag-b560m-mortar-wifi

2 . The gpu is this  https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/3ZrRsY/msi-geforce-rtx-2060-6-gb-ventus-gp-oc-video-card-rtx-2060-ventus-gpoc

3. And the refresh rate of my monitor is 240hz

Thanks

You'd be better off upgrading that gpu if you just want more fps

Ok. What is the resolution of monitor? Like 1080p or 1440p.

I think it is a 1440p monitor

There isn't a rocket lake cpu that's worth 180. Look at the graph I posted.

Thats why the suggestion was to hold off and save to have a more meaningful upgrade.
180 isn't enough to get a meaningful GPU upgrade either

honestly your PC is fine as it is today, but the best value CPU upgrade is to save up for the 12th gen intel one as you will gain more FPS per dollar then some 11th gen intel chip.
