Do You think Resident Evil 4 still holds up?

StingBull

I have been replaying Resident Evil 4 and I don't think the game holds up anymore. I'm really bothered by the controls, they are just so bad. Also I've never realized how repetitive this game was, especially the castle part is just so boring.

Am I alone in this, why do you guys think?

Meh Resi is an ok game. I never really enjoyed how it handles from the old games to the newer games

I actually enjoyed playing resi 6 more, but that game was terrible because of many other reasons. The story and characters I love but the gameplay its self its quite meh

That's because you've played it before. You have to realize what Resident Evil is. A horror game.

After you've played it a few times, it stops being scary. When that happens, it becomes a boring TPS. That's what happened to RE5 imo. It was never scary to begin with.

I think what made RE4 fun was the careful combination of horror and action/shooter. Then RE5 went much more shooter. The RE's before 4 were more horror focused.

I was never really afraid of RE 4, my issue isn't that it's not scary. I'm just bored by how long and samey every level is and the locked tank controls have not aged well at all.

I think the controls aging have little to do with actual age.

We are given tons of freedom to move in most games. I think part of what added to RE4's "style" (I suppose that's what you'd call it) were the controls. I actually remember liking them a lot. They felt "tight". Like, if you didn't know what you were doing, you'd fumble and be screwed, but if you did, you could invariably be a ninja.

Like, I'm sorry, but I guess I just disagree with you. Honestly though, it's been forever since I've played it. I should probably go back and do so.

What I remember is that I was pretty good at it and enjoyed the controls... after I had been playing for over 5 hours. At first, I kept getting killed because they felt hard to deal with. Once I had practiced adequately though, I was a ninja. That's the only real downfall I can attribute to it. And I actually like that. It reminds me of Dark Souls in a way. High learning curve, but oh so sweet reward if you can make it through the grind of learning.

I feel RE1-3 hold up (obviously not graphically) but was never much of a fan of RE4
