Hi all,

Quite new to this forum stuff so if I make any mistakes ect please do let me know.

Having some issues with windows explorer just being unstable as hell, for example it takes ages to load any folders or if I close it and reopen it it'll crash, my screens go blank as it just sort of hangs and sometimes the only way I can get it to reopen is by rebooting, this has became more prominent over the last probably few months however now it's at the point where it is almost unusable.

I know that the best solution is likely just to reinstall windows however I'll be damn honest with you I'm putting that off because of the amount of data I'd have to sort through and I don't get the time anymore.

My specs or as much as I remember are as follows, I can get any more if needed for any ideas ect..

CPU: 11th Gen Intel Core i7 (i7-11700)

Memory: 32gb at 3600 MHz I believe it's viper or something however I'd need to google it..

C Drive: Crucial 1tb m.2 ssd (CT1000P1SSD8)

I have some other disks too but they are not used for anything to do with windows hence I don't believe they need to be here however if they are do let me know.

GPU: RTX 3060 Ti

PSU: MSI A1000G (1000W)

I hope I have provided enough however if you want more please let me know and any ideas are much appreciated as this is now driving me nuts, in fact during the time of writing this my task bar has just reappeared.

I've had a similar problem a couple months ago. If I were to say, I'd say it's probably not a problem with your hardware. It's most likely a problem inside of Windows. To solve the problem, I reset explorer inside of task manager (Ctrl+shift+esc to get there) and it worked ever since.

Hi all,

I've just ran a memory test using memtest86 and all came back fine with no errors.

Any other ideas please do let me know, however it's starting to look like a reinstall sadly, if it does come to that is there a known way to retain the data on the user account and or programs or is starting from scratch best? I want to avoid all this if possible though.

Many thanks

Tom

  • 4 weeks later...

Hi all,

Thought I’d just pop by and say thanks again for any suggestions made.

I couldn’t despite my best efforts figure it out so I decided to upgrade anyway. From a 1TB crucial p2 I think it was to a new P3 2tb.

It is all working fine now and is back to normal.

Thanks all!
