CPU Upgrade Questions

THe 9700 is already close to the fastest cpu for that board(9900k is fastest, but not worth the upgrade probably). You pretty much have to swap the board to get a faster CPU here.

Total noob question. I'm currently running a Core i7-9700 8 core, and I'm planning on upgrading to get a bit more out of VR gaming, particularly for MSFS 2020. I'm looking at a couple different i7s or an i9.

Question 1: I'm assuming that these chips all use the same socket. Correct?

Question 2: Is there anything else I should be looking at that might make a new chip not be compatible with my current build?

My PC is an Omen Obelisk 875-0000 series. Motherboard is (as far as I can tell) HP 84FD. I have a 1000W PSU, and an RTX 3060 GPU.

I'm thinking about an i7-12700K, an i7-13700K, or an i9-12900K.

what? Like a different cpu? An R7 7700 would be a good pick but would require DDR5

i9-12900K.

this isn't a good idea

i7-12700K

neither is this for msrp but for $200 it could be OK

this could be good too. But I'd also consider AM5

"I'm thinking about an i7-12700K, an i7-13700K, or an i9-12900K. "  These CPU's can use the same socket, but they do NOT use the one you currently have.  So you ned a new motherboard as well.

The only true socket upgrade for you is the i9 9900K, which isn't a great value.

Can you list your exact PSU?  Hard to believe a 9700+3060 has a true 1000w, no offense,

Ah, I've replaced the OG PSU and GPU. It was originally fitted with a GTX 1660ti and a 500W PSU.

Ryzen chips won't fit in Intel sockets, will they?

You have to replace mobo anyway
