Does anyone know the way the different revisions work?  Has anyone ever had any experience with different revisions of the LCD-2?

I found used LCD-2 rev. 1 for an affordable price that I could buy, but I also hear the LCD-2 revision 2 and 3 are a bit better, I'm not sure what they do to the headphones to change them into a new revision when they make them, or if they just simply take the revision 1, and modify it with something that could be done by the user.

I tried LCD-2 rev. 2 at a store and was blown away by how comfortable they were, and the quality of materials was extremely nice, and for the price I found them, it would be a really good deal for me to grab em. They sounded extremely nice, and I wish I could of got them but the $1,000 they are new is unattainable to me, but for $650 it's much much better, and I could easily get them.

My HE-500's still have a 30 day return policy on them, and with the money from them and the money from selling my AD900X's, I could buy the used LCD-2 Rev 1.

Question again is:   There are multiple revisions of the LCD-2, (rev 1, rev 2, rev 3)  Can I convert them to rev 2 or 3?

PS: I'm gonna email Audeze and see if they can answer my question as well, also posted on head-fi.

Not correct. Sound did actually change, subtly but measurably, between Rev 1 and Rev 2, the treble was extended further as they introduced a new diaphragm material in the driver.

New ones (I've lost track of which Rev we are on now) have the Fazor wave guide attached, which has again presented a measurable improvement.

Actually every individual Lcd-2 sounds a bit different. They are boutique headphones after all. I'd try to find the Rev 3 though since the major change has been to shore up the connector port on each cup. They crack on the earlier revisions.

"Pardon my French but this is just about the most ignorant blanket statement I've ever read. And though this is the internet, I'm not even exaggerating."

The earlier versions are so much nicer aesthetically though. Most connectors were fine, it was just a percentage that were having issues as the wood relaxed. Totally get why they changed it to the current metal connector of course, just a shame they couldn't find a solution as the original carved wood cable entry was a touch of class.

I would also recommend getting the newest possible kind with the Fazor wave guide at is has close to eliminated a resonance that was leading to their flat sound stage. I haven't heard the Fazor model yet, but from impressions and measurements it's done its job well.

Personally for the money I would always recommend heading in the direction of Stax, but that's just my tastes.

Aren't the entry level stax like $1,000, then I'd also have to spend a zillion dollars on an amp too?

I found revision 2 I believe, it may be fazor / may not be, I'll ask them before I purchase, but it's open box and 795$ for LCD-2 bamboo/lambskin black leather, I fell in love with them at the store I tried them not to long ago at, but ended up settling for he-500 because I didn't have extra $ at the time.

Under a grand for used LCD's beats multi-thousand dollar Stax any day.

Entry level stax aren't a thousand quid, especially not if you buy used.

You can find 303s with the basic amp variaties for £200-£300 if you keep your eyes out.

Edit- for instance the last two 303 rigs I watched on ebay, one with an srm313 went for about £300, one with an srm212 went for £250.

Stax aren't as expensive as people think they are. Not a lot of people realise just how good the SR30*/SR40* models are, or how affordable they are.
