and I saw the zalman mic and wasn't sure if it was trustworthy

It is completely. I use it for 8 months now (have it lying on my desk) and feels like it should be a ~25$ mic. or other mics are just overpriced (..I'm leaning towards that) For VOIP this mic is amazing.

"ModMic" is a specific product, and not made by Zalman.

No it's not. The Zalman one is a clip on mic. Modmic and mod mic have always been referring to Antlion's modmic.

Sure, use it as a general term for a modded mic, but buying a clip-on mic and clipping it to your headphone cable (ie, using it as designed) is not modification.
