RTX 4080 Hotspot/Cooler issue

I'm experiencing a heating problem with my 11-month-old Asus RTX 4080 Tuf, and I'm curious if anyone else has encountered a similar issue. Over the past 1 or 2 months, I've noticed that temperatures are consistently 10-15°C higher than usual, particularly during light gaming sessions like playing League of Legends or football manager games.

When monitoring the temperatures, I've observed the hotspot reaching 110°C during stress testing, while the GPU cores remain at around 70°C. Upon inspecting the graphics card, everything seems fine, except for a small section of the heatsink not making contact with the board, as indicated in the attached pictures. When I apply pressure to the heatsink (pointed out by the red arrow in the second picture), the hotspot temperature instantly decreases by 11-15°C. There is visible light between the heat pad and the board, although I understand it might be challenging to discern from the pictures.

Even with the fans running at 100% (which is quite loud), during gaming with an aggressive fan curve, the hotspot temperatures can still exceed 100°C.

If it were me, I'd remove the graphics card from the computer. Remove the backplate. Snug up the screws that hold the board to the cooler and then reassemble.

 

If a person isn't comfortable with that, I'd suggest contacting Asus

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

Yeah, I am really interested to see what is going on underneath however I do not want to remove the warranty screws 😞

Then contact Asus. 

There shouldn't be any warranty stickers over the back plate screws btw.

Yeah that's definitely dodgy even when you applied pressure.

 

I have the 4090 TUF and the hot spot is only 7C hotter than the core (though not pushing full power, would have to check that).  Although I have no idea how much the 4080 design differs.

Router:  Intel N100 (pfSense) WiFi6: Zyxel NWA210AX (1.7Gbit peak at 160Mhz)
WiFi5: Ubiquiti NanoHD OpenWRT (~500Mbit at 80Mhz) Switches: Netgear MS510TXUP, MS510TXPP, GS110EMX
ISPs: Zen Full Fibre 900 (~930Mbit down, 115Mbit up) + Three 5G (~800Mbit down, 115Mbit up)
Upgrading Laptop/Desktop CNVIo WiFi 5 cards to PCIe WiFi6e/7
