what would give better speed and reliability in copying bluray dvds onto a server?

 

with a server im planning on building i was going to buy bluray DVDs and copy them to a server to use instead of the "other way" to have a legit version of the movie or tv show

It's 54 MBps, for the BR x12, it doesn't matter.

The fastest Ultra HD Blu-Ray discs top out at 144Mbps. That bits, not bytes.

 

Basically, optical media is way too slow to saturate USB 3.0 or SATA III. Even SATA I, 1.5Gbps, would be fine. You could hook it up with gigabit Ethernet and you wouldn't have a problem.

 

The Blu-Ray itself is going to be the bottleneck well before any interface over ancient USB 2.0 48Mbps or 100Mbps Ethernet.

do have an old bluray drive from my first pc build so if it will work just fine then ill connect it up to the server or my pc and copy files over, its the LG CH12NS30 12x BD-R

Yeah dont worry these discs are slow and sata will not hold it back
