Following a neighborhood power outage, my computer randomly restarts during gaming, event logs show kernel power as a source. This issue emerged post-outage, and has happens serval times since suggesting potential component damage.  It exclusively happens while I’m playing Fortnite, as I can still play other graphically intensive games like Call of Duty without encountering the problem as of this post. I have no way of testing with any other hardware to see if hardware damage  is truly the problem, wondering if there was any other ways to fix my problem.

Nah sounds like something in the PSU might've short circuited, as whenever something uses alot of graphics i.e (power) the psu resets.

Main PC

Ryzen 7 3700X, Nvidia GeForce (EVGA) RTX 2060 KO, 16GB ram.

Not to mention especially if you dont have your PC on a surge protection. My knowledge of power outages is when they restore there could be a surge in front of regular power restoration.

If the psu is the problem should I refrain from using my pc incase it damages other hardware.

as someone who lives in a country where that literally isn't a thing (the surges) there's one thing i never understood,  when the surge happens... shouldn't the psu act as protection?  isnt that why they come with a gazillion (well 10 typically iirc) of different protections built-in?

whenever we have a power outage, which happens approximately every 2-3 years, my PC just turns on normally afterwards, last time it didn't even turn off! Everything in the house did, except my pc, it was kinda funny / strange ngl

YES. do not use the PC until you have a new PSU and hope no other components are damaged.

It's usually just a possibility. But a PSU isn't designed to suddenly take twice it's rated power from a surge and It can short it out. Best practice is to have a surge protector or uninterruptible power supply.

I once was talking to a guy whos computer burned out after his house was struck by lightning. Same basic issue.

i see... i bet we have surges too, but they must be much smaller typically... usually we also say to turn stuff off during an outage,  but not necessarily to unplug.  sometimes it goes this fast you wouldn't even have time to turn anything off (like 2-10 seconds) sometimes its longer like 1 minute - 1 hour, but it's all really really rare, thankfully.

yeah and that's why we usually don't have surge protectors because in case of a lightning strike it would be useless.

it's indeed recommended to unplug electrical appliances during thunderstorms etc tho (except ovens and fridges and stuff obviously)
