So basically, I have an already built business pc that I've upgraded with gaming parts. The psu and motherboard are both stock. For reference, the computer is a Dell Inspiron 3847. I just need to know if it's possible to upgrade the psu and what cables I would need. I want to get a 1660 super and I saw that it needs a cable and my current psu isn't modular so I have no clue on what to do and I don't want to spend money on something that will mean waiting for another paycheck to finish my upgrades.

Psu wattage? Send a pic of the wattage table

You can buy a sata to 8 pin adapter

Haswell is pretty low power draw and the 1660s isnt exactly high power draw either, looking at tpu it seems to be a 120w ish card, and you can still undervolt it too

you can swap the psu out for a normal atx unit but if your current psu will work for the gpu then theres literally no reason to do so as oem dell psus seem to be of pretty good quality

also you may wanna consider a used rx 6600(xt) or 5700(xt) instead as those float around 120-150$ and outperform a gtx 1080, unless those happen to be stupid overpriced or you can get a dirt cheap 1660s for <100$

I'm not too concerned about the wattage because i found a pretty cheap psu thats like 650 watts, i really was just concerned about the cables because i have no clue how many to get, if they come with the psu, or really how to even change them

What model? (Send link if unsure)

What price?

New or used?

Cables come with the psu, if you dont have enough cables buy some adapters

Its like 90 bucks or soScreenshot_20231113_013508_AmazonShopping.thumb.jpg.13238be866cc8f3f45deeb97a5630869.jpg

Solid psu but horrific price

At that price look at an 850w unit instead like the xpg core reactor at 105$ if you are gonna buy new

My suggestion would be to buy a used 850w gold like the rm(x) or equivalent for 40-60$ and use the extra budget to get yourself a better gpu, the psu itself will still last the next 7-12 years or so depending on how old it is (max id reccomend is 7yo but pref <5yo)

I found this. It's not modular, but it has everything i need in terms of cables

Why not? It's not different from any other ATX PSU.

I didn't click the link at first, i just saw part picker. Anyways that won't work due to how my case is slotted. The power cord connector is vertical on that psu. My case has a horizontal slot

Id reccomend an Apevia 850w galaxy instead, atleast get something thatll last awhile

Newer apevia psus are alot better than their old ones so dont worry about quality, ofc not gonna be on par with a used rm(x) or equivalent psu thats usually gonna be cheaper but if you are stuck with buying new this is your best option

Also I'm thinking the 650 is probably good too, because my current psu is like 400 or 450 and it runs just fine, and the 650 is cheaper

Only 15$ cheaper though so not worth it imo

And if you wanna save money just buy a used psu, that way you make no comprimises and het a better unit in the process
