Hey wonderful people of LTT,

I have just got myself a new mb msi Pro b760-p and I'm trying to set the boot drive to an ssd but it is saying it is not supported.

How can I fix this issue?

Will I have to get a Nvme drive and start afresh?

Any and all help appreciated.

It's hard to know exactly since there's no photo of the exact error message, but do you know if you have an OEM license for Windows?

OEM is a specific Windows license type tied to your hardware (motherboard specifically). Since you replaced your motherboard, your OEM Windows license will not work since it's new hardware. If you have a retail license, you may still have an issue with it, but you can transfer your retail license to your new PC (or, technically, just a new motherboard).

This article may help if this is the case: https://www.tomshardware.com/how-to/transfer-windows-license-to-new-pc#:~:text=You may not need to buy a new Windows key.&text=If you're building a,need a Windows product key.

Then again, this could not be the issue, but hopefully this helps. A photo of the error can help.

sadly I don't remember exactly what. I think first thing to disable is a secure boot. Disable that thing.

You might be thinking of csm? I believe the OP would need that if the boot drive is formatted to MBR / legacy rather than GPT.
