PC Build

Go to solution Solved by Jacobplayz,

After doing some thinking, I think I'll just stick to the original build @venomtail suggested. I dont think I really need the i7 after reading the replies. Thank you for your help.

So about a week ago @venomtail helped me with a PC build, and there were a few notes on the bottom of the page. I also replaced a 13400 with an i7 12700k, and I'm not sure if It will still work. I don't know if the upgrade is even worth it. I would like the CPU to be a k model.

The notes:

Here's the link for the build if you need it: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/JZZBvj

So you need a K series CPU because you're planning on overclocking?

For the reccomended ram voltage that can be completely ignored, besides theres already pmic on ddr5 so the imc shouldnt even be dealing with the ram voltage directly, not like there was ever a risk in the first place considering i can run well over 2v ddr3 on my x58 i7/xeons without issue even though the "reccomended" is 1.65v, nor has there been any evidence of imc degradation via dram voltage on ddr4 or ddr5 atleast not that i know of, anyone with evidence you are welcome to post here either personal experience or some on the internet to be scutinized and verified

I think the mounting bracket one can also be ignored, usually they should come with an lga 1700 mounting bracket, i mean why wouldnt they when lga 1700 has been out for like 2 years now? Think this is a warning that was relevant when lga 1700 was new but is now obselete

The disclaimer is always there, youll just need to check cooler height and case max supported cooler height but with a 120mm (dual) tower that shouldnt be an issue, maybe for an obselete d15 or any of those massive aircoolers this is relevant but 120mm coolers wont be affected for the most part as its a very common cooler height range, ram clearence also ignorable as long as you arent using tall rams, mainly rainbow rams or ones that just have inexplicably tall heatsinks

As for the build itself

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/jdDx9c

12600kf + 7800xt + 32gb 3600c18

Just a bunch of cost cutting alongside a z690 board so you can actually overclock your cpu, lots of improvements to be made by buying used

You may be able to get a better z690 board for around the same price used

12600k(f) are around 150-180$ used, if you are lucky you may find used 12700k(f) floating around 200$

Psu is ok ish but id reccomend saving your money and buying a used 850w gold like the rm(x) or equivalent for 40-60$, you save money and get a better psu in the process

The 470$ ish leftover budget you can stretch 30$ to get a new 7800xt, get a new 7700xt and leave 20$ remaining, or prefferably buy a used 3080ti which should be ~400-450$ used

as for the part changes

12600kf cause 300$ for a 12700k is a ripoff, and also just to reserve some more budget for the gpu

Z690 board cause its cheaper and allows overclocking

Ddr4 cause its a ton cheaper than ddr5 and you arent really gonna futureproof with ddr5 anyways unless you buy some hynix or klevv 5600c46 bare pcbs that come with hynix a dies (8000+ oc capapbility for future generations), performance aspect can be mitigated by tuning that ddr4 to 4000-4200 gear 1, if single rank you may find some benifit pushing 5200-5600 ddr4 in gear 2 but thats usually only if you get micron rev b and itll problably be a pain to stabilize, doesnt help that rev b stops scaling at 1.7-1.72v

Are we still sticking to $1k budget?

We still sticking to an all out black theme?

What changed in demands? Why is 13400 no longer sufficient that you need a 12 core CPU?

13600K is better than 12th get i7.

Since you mention you need K, I'll assume you need overclocking for some reason so need an overcloable motherboard.

A: Most likely advertised speed is an already preset OC from them rather than a default XMP you set.

B: Old cooler that should have extra compatability brackets included as it was made before that socket but there's a chance unsold models exist that don't have them included.

C: Self explanatory. Some RAM stick are super tall, most of the time RGB ones as RGB can't really go in either X or Z direction, can only go up on Y. Since some are taller than standart, they interfiere with some coolers that stick with the default heights.

Have a look:

The promos just come and go

When the promos are gone pcpp will automatically display current pricing so instead of 1040$ its now 1060$

Hence why you cant expect a list to be relevant for more than a week or 2

Yes

Yes

I'm looking for peak performance form my cpu that i could get from my budget and of you think 13 gen k is better I'll probably use that instead of i7
