Multiple PC's with Synced Users (Windows)

Hi All,

 

I'm a volunteer firefighter in Australia and my brigade is looking into setting up 5 or so "hot-desks" for members to use if they are going to be on station for a day so they can still get personal work done.

Ideally, I want every member to have individual windows logons that they can use on any of the PC's and they will be able to access their own windows environment. If at all possible without using a cloud service, I understand hardware is expensive and maintence is a neccesity, but we don't want reliance on the cloud.

I don't know what the best way to do this is, hence me asking here, I have thought about network booting but I think that's more trouble than it's worth (maybe I'm wrong) and Active Directory seems way over complicated and advanced for what we need.

 

If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them!

AFAIK AD is your only option. Something like an headless VDI solution maybe applicable too but licensing costs are something that would sway me away from that.

Okay, do you know of any somewhat easy to follow AD documentation or tutorials for something like this? Everything I've found is either 10 years old or unreadable.
