Budget (including currency): 1.5k CAD

Country: Canada

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Fornite, CS 2, Diablo 4, game in the futur..

Other details

I currently have a Ryzen 5 3600, 32Gb DDR4 3200 and a 2070 Super RTX. I recently booted up Fortnite after a

long period and was only playing CS so my pc was enough.. but with fortnite i saw that i am droping a lot of frames even on low or mid resolution. I have a 144 hz monitor and play in 1080p, so 4K is not necessary

I want to buy the GPU used was thinking maybe a 3080 (around 600 CAD) or maybe 3070TI ?, I would love to go with AM5 or 12 or 13 gen Intel and use DDR5, but is something like this is a no brainer for 325$ used on marketplace STRIX B450-F GAMING II AMD RYZEN 9 3900x ?

Any recommandation for a pc build with those criteria ? My budget can vary, since i will sell my old computer.. but i would like to be around 1.5

Thank you so much!

Full specs of current pc (particularly psu, mobo, case)?

You can problably just buy a used 5800x3d and drop it in as an upgrade

As for the gpu a used 3080(ti) is a good choice but you may wanna consider a used 3090 instead if you can find one for a good price and have leftover budget. If powerbills are high a new or even a used 4070 may also be an interesting choice as its equivalent or slightly worse than a 3080 but consumes much less power

That system should be plenty for fortnight on a 1080p 144Hz monitor. I believe something else is causing the frame drops. Background tasks perhaps? You have freesync, right? That should smooth out drops to make them unnoticable. That is unless it drops due to CPU being occupied with something else. You could check by keeping task manager open in the background and ALT-TAB'ing to it when you experience drops.

Also, how are your CPU and GPU temperatures?

For the type of games you play, your system is still more than powerful enough for several years. Perhaps you should reinstall your operating system. Windows is the most susceptible to viruses of all operating systems. It does happen more often that systems get infected. And then you can have performance problems.

If you can't get the problem fixed by any means you might want to consider upgrading. I think this would be a good build for your budget.
