A virtualized unfi controller on TrueNAS Scale?

Idea based on the latest short ciruit video titled "I get giddy just looking at it - Ubiquiti Cloud Key Enterprise"

I noticed earlier that TrueNAS Scale actually has an application called unifi. I will post the descrition after this line

Has anyone tried this out? I kinda would like to see either Jake from LMG or ServerTheHome or even Level1Techs make a video about this. I have not deployed this application, because I am too poor to afford ubiquiti gear.

Should do what it says; this has been available for quite a while.

 

For local management, you never really needed a CloudKey to begin with. IIRC, the CK gets you remote access via Ubiquiti's servers.

I ran the controller on bare-metal for a while for my nanoHD and its totally overkill unless you have lots of networking gear by Ubiquiti.  Ate a ton of RAM and CPU resources due to being Java based.

 

I can see the benefit for actual enterprise use, but I feel its foolish to tie yourself into a single vendor as a home user as you lose flexibility in choosing the best hardware for the job/price.

Router:  Intel N100 (pfSense) WiFi6: Zyxel NWA210AX (1.7Gbit peak at 160Mhz)
WiFi5: Ubiquiti NanoHD OpenWRT (~500Mbit at 80Mhz) Switches: Netgear MS510TXUP, MS510TXPP, GS110EMX
ISPs: Zen Full Fibre 900 (~930Mbit down, 115Mbit up) + Three 5G (~800Mbit down, 115Mbit up)
Upgrading Laptop/Desktop CNVIo WiFi 5 cards to PCIe WiFi6e/7

A quick look makes it seem like the most recent versions aren't anymore, but I do remember that when I first got Ubiquiti equipment and thinking it was strange (and that's coming from someone whose language of choice is Java).

Indeed, though using .deb instead of something more generic like Flatpak seems dumb too.
