So i'm interested now not in computer info. but network admin. as my major when i enter college. What are some companys so i can do research that manage servers for like companys like google, microsoft, other websites and etc. What do these jobs involve i remember a long time ago @LinusTech had a person on the WAN Show (Livestream back then) and he worked in network admin. He talked about how he, when the power went out, had to shut down the watercooled servers before they overheated and stuff. Basically i NEED info on this so i can kinda learn about it.

By "watercooled servers" they mean that they use water to cool down the air that is pushed into the cold aisle in the datacentre. It saves a huge ammount of money when compared to the cost of traditional air conditioning. One DC that I used to use said they saved over £20,000 per MONTH by using water to cool the air rather than AC units. It is also more enviromentally friendly.

 

In the case of managed services the data centre will host those services on their own hardware, and employ staff to take care of them, rather than an external company being contracted to do it.

 

I dont really know what youre asking for information about when you say "Server management companys".

To be a network admin you pretty much have to know about everything that goes into servers so you'd have to know how routing and switching, security, and data centers work etc. It's really better to start in one place of interest and go from there. Also you really only need your BS in college because they want certified people who actually know what they're doing and not somebody how did a class on it 6 years ago. Cisco Certification programs would be a good place to start.

These types of staff are usually in 2nd or 3rd line support type roles. Most medium to large companies will probably have staff that do that kind of role.

 

IT is a necessary expense to most businesses. Try to work in a technology focused company if possible.

 

If you are really interested in the switching and routing then you should look for jobs at a datacentre, if youre just interested in the servers and software then look for ones at medium to large businesses in an industry that interests you.

I think you're talking about an IT Consultant or Managed Services Provider.
