Right, so this is sorta a part 2 of my first thread stating the temps I was getting with Gtx660 during games, underload, etc, after sending out for an RMA which the card shall be picked up monday now, I decided to hop on Tomb Raider and do the bench, turning Vsync off completely, settings at a mix of high and ultra, some settings on low, @ 1280 x 1024, Monitoring with Evga Precision X the card rocketed to 100 degrees CELCIUS. I thought this was rather alarming and I decided to download / install Furmark and burn the Gtx660 with it to test the temps when under the bench with AA on at 2x MSAA. Roughly 20 - 30 seconds passed and the card hit 100'c, card freaked out, lowered the clocks past 500 and just generally spazzed out, weird thing is, is that Furmark was displaying a different, much lower temp @ 40'c. Would attach a Screenshot of TR during Max temp but It's late. Furmark added below. EDIT: ADDED TR SCREENSHOT AFTER SETTING FAN PROFILE OF FULL FAN SPEED AT 70'C+

Maybe Furmark just isn't reading the info from the card properly? I don't see any other reason for the discrepancy.

Not quite sure, but do you think RMA'ing the card will be worth it though?

Probably not a GPU problem, Furmark is just getting the wrong temperature. Happens with my card too(not always).

But with those temps there is definitely something wrong. What exact model GPU are you using? How is the airflow in your case. Is the GPU heatsink securely attached to the GPU?

At 100C it is possible to permanently damage the GPU.

If you can figure out the high temperature problem, I would just RMA it.

Here I shall answer, Gtx660 Evga FTW edition, clocked at 1072Mhz, clocks up to 1172Mhz (Rarely), Card is currently 3 months old, no problems up until around 2 weeks ago, used to hit a max temp on SC2 of around 72'c, perfect temp, never touched the internal parts of the Card, i.e the cooler as I've seen no need. So yea.., forgot to add this, the airflow in the case seems fine, I've got 2 intakes on my NZXT H2 with my large be quiet! Dark rock pro 2 CPU cooler above the 660, With the exhaust on the back.

Are the GPU fans spinning freely? Maybe the fan is broken?

Have you set up a custom fan profile in EVGA precision? Maybe try turning up the fans to see if the temperature drops.

Also check the 4 screws holding on the heatsink to the card, they could have come loose.
If you feel uncomfortable doing this, I would just RMA the card.

I have RMA'd an EVGA card before and I had a new GPU back in my hand in less than two weeks, awesome customer service.

Cards like a bloody jet engine at the max 74% Fan speed indicated by the Screenshot, it's defo pushing air when I put my hand close to the exhaust of the card.

WOW thats insane.. check the case condition.. space.. and all fans included in the case.. also check room temps, is it new? when did you exact the problem?

I would just RMA it, unless you want to disassemble the card and replace the thermal paste(which might void your warranty). Temps that high are very bad for the GPU, if it was at 100C for more than 30 seconds I wouldn't be surprised if it already had some damage.

I ran the card at 100'c for around 20 seconds or so Max, I really didn't want to fry it. I currently do not possess Thermal paste at the moment so even if I wanted to, I can't.

Read the quotes and/or responses, you'll get a general jist of the current situation with the card.

It's fine mate, just looks like the cooler isn't seated properly or the chip is screwed.
