CPU Cooler screwed into backplate

Hi, I’m swapping out CPU from Intel to AMD and need to take my cooler off.

Sadly, my cooler is screwed so hard into the backplate behind my motherboard that, when I unscrew the cooler, the backplate’s screw hole spins with it. All my other screws are okay and came out without a problem, but this one is screwed so tight it moves with the backplate mounting hole. Anyone know how I can get it loose? I’ve already tried holding the backplate screw hole in place with some tweezers, but it’s too small of a gap to get a good grip

Sorry for the terrible explanation but hopefully you get the idea. Thanks!

I gather needle-nose pliers won't fit? There are specialty pliers that should fit.

I'd suggest get it to a repair shop, might want need some soldering or non conductive glue (if there is even such a thing).

Take it from me, anything half-assed might just kill your motherboard. I lost a laptop because I could not unscrew a stripped screw, and somehow I killed the laptop in the process. This was years ago tho, lesson learnt the hard way.

Occassionaly visits the forum when I have nothing to do at work.

I've been using computers since around 1978, started learning programming in 1980 on Apple IIs, started learning about hardware in 1990, ran a BBS from 1990-95, built my first Windows PC around 2000, taught myself malware removal starting in 2005 (also learned on Bleeping Computer), learned web dev starting in 2017, and I think I can fill a thimble with all that knowledge. 😉 I'm not an expert, which is why I keep investigating the answers that others give to try and improve my knowledge, so feel free to double-check the advice I give.

My phone's auto-correct is named Otto Rong.🤪😂

Quick update: managed to jam a flathead screwdriver in the backplate. The plastic that held the mounting hole to the backplate had broke and was spinning freely in there, so a screwdriver stopped it from spinning and let me unscrew it. Thanks!
