you'd probs lose about 10 fps

Also, is there any difference between 6000 CL30 vs 5600 CL28?

in terms of performance no, there isn't

so I'm thinking of going with this kit for both performance and style

good choice. I would've gone with that one myself

Custom: AMD Ryzen 5 7500F ($181.83)

all I'd do is swap out the ram for the 5600 cl28 kit and then you're off. Looks good to me

Budget (including currency): <$500USD

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Baldur's Gate 3, It Takes 2, Split Screen Games in General as well as catching up on From Software's Library
Resolutions/Refresh Targets: 1080p/60-120fps (singleplayer) 4k/30-60fps (steam link to game room for splitscreen/singleplayer on a 4k TV)

Details: I recently purchased a new graphics card (MSI Gaming Z Trio 6800) and I've been enjoying the new life it's given my PC (coming from an EVGA 1060 6GB) but I know I need to upgrade my CPU. The thing is, I'm not sure where to go with it. I'm thinking about going with the AM5  since I'm rather envious of the position my cousin is in (He's got a Ryzen 5 1600 and plenty of upgrade path) but I'm not sure if the performance/upgrade advantage is worth the price right now compared to an AM4 or LGA1700(12th gen) platform. I don't really believe in future proofing, but I would like a nice upgrade path. My main goal right now is to be able to play BG3 split screen without worrying about it crashing as has been happening which I'm sure is due to the CPU.

**A CPU that comes with a cooler isn't necessarily required, but it's a plus as I have a tower cooler from Cooler Master, but It was given to me so I don't know the model or if it can be adapted to either of these platforms**

7600 build.

Ryzen 7600 is a great 6 core chip, in line with how the 5600 was for AM4.

I personally won't use 400 level Intel chips.  600 or higher.  Intel's entry level stuff is TOO entry level, IMO.

Found a site selling the 7500f. Anyone have any advice on this? this would close the gap and make going AM5 a no brainer imo.

Okay, from y'all's advice I've this as the absolute cheapest entry to AM5 that I'd be happy with, but my biggest question is with the RAM how much slower would a 16GB 5600 CL46 kit be compared to say, the 16GB 5600 CL28 kit that was recommended? Also, is there any difference between 6000 CL30 vs 5600 CL28?

I found a nifty calculator online

image.thumb.png.b60057c3214c9738ecf5feebc5615812.png

This shows that 5600 CL28 and 6000 CL30 are equivalent and both are 1.64x faster than the 5600 CL46 kit. Which means that the more expensive kits would be a better bang for buck according to my calculations. What I don't know is how this speed difference affects gaming performance. Can anyone help me out with that?

Edit: After further research, getting anything faster than a 10ns latency results in a substantial price jump, so I'm thinking of going with this kit for both performance and style

Further research done that didn't warrant an additional post

how much slower would a 16GB 5600 CL46 kit be compared to say, the 16GB 5600 CL28 kit that was recommended?

you'd probs lose about 10 fps

Also, is there any difference between 6000 CL30 vs 5600 CL28?

in terms of performance no, there isn't
